im running windows xp pro,i can access the computer and it all loads up ok but when i try to connect to the internet it says cant find the program so i cant get on the net

Hmmm sounds like you need to re-install the drivers for the modem and start again?! Do you have your username and password for your ISP?0

Do you have any spyware in place to prevent infection? e-mail worms,

Right click on any unoccupied area on the task bar and then click on properties.
Try this .... Un-check 'HIDE INACTIVE ICONS'
Click OK
there aint nothing hid there,
