i'm in the process of deciding between a Baxi and Valiant.

Both the Engineers I know have told me to go for the Baxi.

Each brand is good although i've been told the Valiants are harder for the engineer to work on and they quite often need a seal replacing . Although a minor fault the Baxi seems to be recomended everywhere.

For prices i certainly agree about mrcentralheating.com does anyone have any experience with them?

I have had lots of dealings with mr centralheating.com, only £10 delivery anywhere and they are always reliable. I wouldnt have a bad word to say about the company. The radiators are not the best quality but everything else is A1

By the way my preferance are worcestor bosch, by far!!
  • I cant say I know about that website but we bought our baxi from http://www.heatwarehouse.co.uk was with us in 24 hr, can recommend, a guy called Ryan was very helpful when I called and at the time they were the cheapest for most baxis, probably worth pricing yours up before buying it elswhere.
  • Hi my name is Beate, I'm in Christchurch NZ. Funnily enough our boiler here is OK but he one in our house in Uk needs replacing.I have read your conversation above and wondered if I could hear some opinions on the Ideal Logic +30 high efficiency boiler please. Thanks

Good evening: welcome to MSE. Avoid the Ideal....my OH will never fit another Ideal after the Isar/Icos fiasco.

Ask to see CIPHE (Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering)
  • Thanks for that Canucklehead, May i please ask what you mean "Isar?Icas fiasco. I am new to this boiler subject and need a little education? What happened? Where there issues with the product itself or the follow up support? As we are so far away form our propperty this is currently already a big issue for us.

The Isar/Icos/Istor boilers from Ideal were very poor with a pcb that normally failed within 2 years. Ideal redesigned the pcb but refused to put right any boilers that went wrong. I think it appeared on Watchdog.

The Vaillants are VERY easy to work on. Probably the easiest, although Viessmanns are very good too. They are exceedingly well engineered. The seal problem is now old hat. When the Ecotec Plus range came out they fitted silicon burner seals. These have now been changed to graphite.

I ve got a Ideal isar boiler and from when it was installed we had problems...we re on our 5th pcb and last February we had 6 Homeserve engineers out over 8 days trying to fix it. The last engineer said they had replaced everything apart from the heat exchanger!

We took out Homeserve cover at £17/month and it has saved us the cost of parts and labour, mainly also me having a day off to repair the boiler

I am a Gasafe Reg engineer and mainly install Baxi boilers. Over the years I have found them them reasonably straight forward to fit and a reasonable price compared to others. We have serviced most annually and only had problems with about three of them out of about 100 or so. I remember the first Worcester boiler we had to get a Worcester engineer out to bend the fixing jig to fit the boiler and he said it was quite common during installation ! We only fitted a couple more and each time we experienced problems that required technical assistance visit from Worcester engineers. I have no installation experience with Vaillants. halstead basic but ok. Biasi cheap, knobs easy to snapbut expensive extras(from a couple of years ago) Ideal-rubbish, cheap boiler expensive parts! Viessmann no experience

I am about to buy a couple of Baxi Netatec 33 kw boilers to install at my house and my mates house. They come with a 5 years full warranty, so if I cancel my £17/month on the (far from )Ideal boiler i ll save over £1000 virtually the cost of the boiler over the next 5 years!

    Great!

Fitted a few of the netatecs now and they seem very good, takes a little bit of time to set up but still very good.

  • We had a Baxi in a rented house I used to live in. It was installed new after the old boiler packed up. Anyway, it was nothing but trouble, it broke several times a year leaving us with no heating or hot water each time. I've never seen such a piece of crap and I would never buy a Baxi myself.
Baxi are very good if installed correctly.
You could buy a brand new merc but if you put a load of sludge in engine it wouldn't work very well. Lol
