Hi, I am looking for some advice. Im hoping to be having a central heating system installed into my 2 bedroomed semi detached before Christmas. I will need 5 radiators - 2 downstairs, 3 upstairs. According to which reviews the Baxi Duo-tec 28HE comes out on top. Does anybody have any experience with this boiler? Also are there any others you might recommend as i have already had a gas fitter round to quote and he's recommending a Halstead.
All your comments would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I have the 33kw version, and can't fault it. Quick to heat up water and you can specifiy exact water temperature - very handy for bathing the baby.
I also have the remote thermostat controller, which controls the timing and temperature for the heating.
The only irk i have is that the remote thermostat is an analogue version, and that no digital version exists (as far as i am aware)2014 running challenge 471.95 km / 1000 km.0 -

Good morning: I would steer clear of all Halsteads  and any RGI who chooses to fit them. After 30+ years in the industry, my OH only installs Vaillant and Viessmann by choice not for financial incentives (a current Baxi-Potterton tactic and the latest wheeze in the post fit 1 Potterton boiler = £25 Argus voucher, 3= Nintendo DS Lite and so on:rolleyes:)
In the end, a boiler is only as good as its installation and annual servicing so find a recommended RGI who follows Best Practice and you are off to an excellent start.

Thank you for your replies. Kevsan did you go for the 33 because you have a larger house so need more output? and roughly how much did you pay?
I must admit i had never heard of a Halstead myself. Canucklehead, why is it that the valiants are more expensive than the majority of other brands and does that mean parts are going to be very expensive when it inevitably breaks down?0 -

Good afternoon:
Bargain bin boilers don't necessarily have cheaper parts, Halstead spares are very expensive... in fact there is a huge variety in price of parts even within brands let alone between them.
Vaillant and Viessmann boilers aren't significantly more expensive boilers and you're getting a better quality product to boot. For example you can price compare the Baxi Duotec 33HE
the Vailliant EcoTec Plus 831 and the Viessmmann Vitodens 100 35 kW (the Viessmann will have a 5 year parts and labour warranty if installed by a Viessmann trained RGI ) N.B. All 3 will require an annual service and installation to manufacturer's specifications to validate the warranty. Other costs will vary dependent on site requirements.
A 33Kw combi will have a higher DHW flow rate than a 28 kw ....your RGI must ensure that your mains supply has the recommended minimum pressure and flow rate and advise you about implications for the cold and hot water supplies to other outlets. More info on the specification and installation of gas central heating systems is available from the EST

Hi, weve just had the baxi 28 installed, personally I think its great, water heats up quick and the heating gets piping hot very quickly. We bought it from here http://www.heatwarehouse.co.uk/baxi/baxi_duotec_combi_28he.html it was and as far as I can see still is the cheapest around by a fair distance....
Hope that helps, I'll keep you posted if I have any problems!
Cheers

I find it amusing that you could ask a dozen gas engineers which boiler is the best and you would probably get 12 different answers. I personally fit alot of baxi's or potterton's ( they're both the same boiler, just badged differently). There are different models in the ranges, which give 5 year parts and labour warrenties, but the price is more expensive for these. So yes, I would recommend the baxi and not the viessmmann( no disrespect to canucklehead). I think the important thing is who is fitting the boiler. Is it someone who is at the end of the phone, when it goes wrong(they all will) or someone only interesting in fitting new boilers, with no idea or interest in back up service0

i'm in the process of deciding between a Baxi and Valiant.
Both the Engineers I know have told me to go for the Baxi.
Each brand is good although i've been told the Valiants are harder for the engineer to work on and they quite often need a seal replacing. Although a minor fault the Baxi seems to be recomended everywhere.
For prices i certainly agree about mrcentralheating.com does anyone have any experience with them?kicking squealing gucci little piggy.0 -
We had a Baxi in a rented house I used to live in. It was installed new after the old boiler packed up. Anyway, it was nothing but trouble, it broke several times a year leaving us with no heating or hot water each time. I've never seen such a piece of crap and I would never buy a Baxi myself.0

Hi I have posted a new thread with a similar discussion about boilers (no replies yet) but basically I'm looking at buying a Baxi Duo Tec 33HE or Vaillant 831 HE from https://www.boiler-sales.co.uk (link found on mrcentralheating.com).
So the obvious questions are has anyone bought a boiler from boiler-sales.co.uk (as their prices are very good) and also the Baxi 33HE or Vaillant 831?
Also replacing 9 out of 10 rads in my house..(have 1 bathroom, 3 bed terraced house)..
So any recommendations/help please?
Thanks.0
