Also worth noting that the condition of getting your free digi-box is that the box is kept permanently attached to your phone line. It's part of Skys contract.

This is not correct. With a single Sky box (Sky+ or the normal Sky box) you are only obliged to have the box connected for the 1st 12 months. However if you don't connect it Sky are not bothered.
I have a Sky+ in the living room & use my old box in the conservatory

BUT if you have the Multi-Room subscription then you must keep all the boxes connected to the same phone line for ever. If one is not connected Sky do get very concerned about about this and think that you are using the disconnected box at a different address (holiday home, another family member, etc).

he is not complaining only commenting and warning others so they dont get a huge bill all at once like he did.. its a warning to others to be careful.

Thankyou. I feel like I am banging my head against a wall with this one. As you say, I just thought I would post this as a warning to other people who disconnect their phone phone line, because I know I am not the only one.

But then why are you complaining that they took the money that you owed them in a lump sum? Part of the terms of service say that the box must be plugged in to a phone line (see your interactive sky discount). Unfortunately the box and sky cannot communicate through the 'ether' sky wouldn't know you owed the money until the box told them that you did.

:wall: I am not complaining SKY took the money that I correctly owed them. I am posting this as a warning to others. The money doesn't bother me. I used the services, I pay for them.

Maybe part of your T & C's with them state you have to have your phone line connected, but not mine and SKY have confirmed this to me. I have been with them for 9 years on their top package for the duration. The original "free" grundig digi-box went in the bin after 12 months and I went out and bought my own Sony receiver.

I have Sky and I don't require a warning not to be a muppet.

It's common sense and you got what you deserved.

amazing how people don't read isn't it?

I also believe sky use the phone line as a data logger, so they can see what people watch and at what times of day, hence the fact that certain programs get moved from free channels to pay ones in order to get more subscribers.

I am not a Sky customer, but even I knew that the phone line was necessary in connection with pay-per-view and other services, and anyone disconnecting the phone would receive reminders about this.

So it really should not come as a great surprise, and why should Sky give an extra warning or allow easy payment terms about a 3 year uncollected debt, where the delay is due to the customer's conduct? All the same, there is no need for some people to be rude about it.

If you read my posts I am not asking for easy payment terms or extra warning. I used the service. I paid the money. No big deal. As I have said (numerous times) before, I posted this to warn other people who disconnect their phone line from the digi-box.

It's a shame some people view me disconnecting the box as some sort of immoral act. Quite frankly, the amount of cynicism on here is incredible. I was not trying to get away without paying. To be honest, I never actually check my SKY statements. It was only done so there were no wires trailing across the wooden floor with my 2 year old daughter about.

When I disconnect the box I am NOT in breach of SKY's term's and conditions. (SKY have confirmed this). They know the line has been disconnected and they haven't ask me to connect it back up. They dont even own the equipment. It is only for the first 12 months you are obliged to have your phone line connected to the digi-box. After that you can do what you like. I have been with SKY for 9 years and had a great service and as far as I am concerned, expensive they may be, but they provide the best value for money out there.

Hopefully that will put this to bed.

I made no moral judgements, and I'm surprised you feel that what I said was cynical. Nor have I alleged that you were attempting to evade payment.

I only said that the function of the service is known, and should not be a surprise. In this respect I seem to be aligned with the warning that you are giving others.

However, you have posted this in a board called Warnings and Rip-offs, so should not be surprised that some other people have taken the view that you are attacking the company, and responded accordingly.

I kept my phone line connected for the first year then disconnected it. That was two years ago. I think you only have to keep it connected for the first year. I have certainly heard nothing from them about it.
