PayPal nightmare

I recently bought a pair of jeans on ebay - big mistake and won't be doing it again! The jeans arrived but were not as described - they were longer than described. The seller was very aggressive yet couldn't deny the jeans were actually longer than described. I just wanted to return them to her for a full refund. She eventually agreed to have them sent back but said she wouldn't refund my postage. At this stage I was so fed up I agreed. After a week of so and no word from the seller I contacted her to make sure she had received the jeans. She said she had but then tried to give me some baloney about their being bobbles inside the pocket which, she alleged, proved they'd been worn. They hadn't - they were too long! She was obviously grasping at straws.
At this stage I raised a complaint with PayPal, which was soon escalated. PayPal came back me to me and asked me to send the item back to the seller and send them a tracking number for the parcel. I wrote back to them stating that if they'd actually 'investigated' my case, as they claimed, they would have read that the item had been returned and that the seller had confirmed receipt in her statement. At any rate I faxed them a copy of the proof of posting, from the post office, just in case!
I couldn't beleive it - PayPal closed the case, deciding against me, because I had not supplied a tracking number!!!
I can't tell you how cross I was! Not only did they not refund my money, the seller got to keep my money and the item. I am currently going through my credit card and I hope they fine PayPal, and hope to contact the financial ombudsman or whoever it is you're meant to take this up with. However, the worst thing is that this means the seller gets off scot free. Indeed, the paypal process took so long that I couldn't even leave negative feedback to warn other ebayers.
Plus, during all of this, while researching the seller myself through their feedback, I discovered that they'd done something similar to someone else! Although in their case the seller had sent a soiled item and then claimed the buyer had done it! Unbelievable. All was not lost though as that ebayer then made a complaint about her too - so all was not lost. Can I name and shame the seller here? With her it's certainly a case of buyer beware!
Any advice welcome...

Did you send the item back recorded?"Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."
-- Eleanor Roosevelt0 -
No, it wasn't sent recorded delivery but I did get a proof of posting from the Post Office, which I faxed to PayPal.
At any rate, the seller acknowledged the safe return and receipt of the item in the their statement. If PayPal actually read the statements in the dispute resolution, as they claim, they would have seen this for themselves.Money can't buy you happiness, but it sure helps!0 -
Have you left negative feedback for the seller?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

I'd find the name of PayPal's UK managing director or similar. Send a recorded letter stating your frustration at the lack of customer service. Send print outs of any correspondence. Tell them you have no choice but to chase this through your credit card company. Hopefully they'll respond.0

Thanks very much for your help!
No, I didn't get a chance to leave negative feedback as I'd run out of time by the time it had all ended. I didn't want to leave negative feedback until I had all the info.
PayPal said that if I had a problem to take it it to the ombudsman.
Can I name and shame the bad ebayer here?Money can't buy you happiness, but it sure helps!0 -
Yes, name and shame them!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
have you tried ringing paypal and speaking to someone ??
this is very unfair on you0 -
