Watchdog on BBC1

I am just watching Watchdog, something I don't do very often. The first item reminded why I do not watch it.

Nicky Campbell revealed (wait for it, it's going to blow your mind) that not only do different garages charge different prices for petrol but where there is less competition due to there being fewer garages, those garages tend to charge more.

There was then some stunningly useful advice from some mouth-breather from What Car magazine: find garages which charge less for petrol and buy your petrol there.

I think I need to lie down.

Do you need to read mse to know garages set their own prices?

Wouldn't that be a bit like assuming Tesco and Asda will charge the same price for their own brand cornflakes?

I think you all missed th point of it.
  • Despite what Watchdog said, I don't believe that ASDA does charge the same in all their supermarkets, because when there was an article about ASDA dropping its petrol price recently, the price shown per litre was less than we were charged that same afternoon at my local ASDA.

After all why would they charge any less than what they could get for a product? I live in a relatively rural area, and we do not have many garages selling petrol anyway, so even our supermarket petrol is usually higher than more urban areas.
