Either way it's up to me now to try to show them I am up for the job.
Very best of luck with the interview.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
  • I too have suffered discrimination when applying for jobs , I have had all sorts of comments, such as I am a Health and Safety risk because I walk with sticks and that is in an office!, I am overqualified etc,etc
In the end I gave up and have now started my own buisiness.

I'm sad to hear that. Let me assure you that not all people and workplaces are like that.

Best of luck with the interview Holey.

If you don't get the job, you can ask to see copies of the marking system that they use as well as the applications of the other candidates (suitably censored for Data Protection purposes), I only know because the DRC told me about it and even advised me on what to write when asking for the information. Unfortunately the DRC have ceased to be and how you have to ring up the Human Rights & Equality Commission instead and ask to be put through to their Disability section. This will help you to see where you went wrong or if the potential employer was biased in its marking processes towards a candidate who was earmarked for the job as opposed to having the right qualifications.

Just to follow up on my story. I was contacted yesterday and informed I have been selected for an interview.

Now of course I am wondering if it was my own merits which got me the interview or whether it was the two ticks scheme?

Either way it's up to me now to try to show them I am up for the job.
I would not waste time wondering whether you've been called on your own merits or because of the two ticks scheme, just concentrate on preparing. Because that's all that matters now.
Signature removed for peace of mind
  • Good luck with the interview

Have you spoke with the equality and diversity person in HR, they are usually very helpful and know their stuff when it comes to been treated equally and fairly.

    good luck

  • Best of luck with the interview ....

I agree Typetalk can be frustrating - but it is a necessary instrument in helping you in your job. (although it didn't for me)....
Don't forget that you can speak whilst receiving the reply in text...
  • Thank you for all your good wishes.
My next dilemma is that I am a little interview rusty.
    Does anyone have any advice?

Also I need to get myself in the right frame of mind for a job interview. I want to go in smiling, being confident, positive, showing willingness. I HAVE to make them see I am the right candidate for the job. However, largely due to the current climate and fears I feel totally different to how I want to appear.
  • sorry - don't come to me for interview advice ..... :o
  • Good luck..
wear something you feel comfortable but good in..
have some questions to ask them..take them in a notebook if you want ..
I would even take notes of what they are telling me if needs be or ask if you may

take extra time to answer if you need .. better to be seen as thoughtful..but do try to keep answers clear and succint..you can always ask them if you need to elaborate more but you can't take back ..a longwinded waffle:rolleyes:

If you are not sure about an answer you could always say I'm not sure about that I would like some more information or, I would like to learn more about that I think that is an area that I would like your guidance on improving my knowledge on ...which is something I am happy to do..

See what I am saying make any negatives positive
you could even add on to last comment I'm a quick learner

Be yourself , give a good firm handshake and don't forget to smile..address questions to specific people if they have specific interests on a panel

Show you have done some research about job, company even key people
eg new dept being set up because of someones special project..

If they ask you about previous work be specific about what you did and achieved, learnt from the job..and possible say how that would be useful to this job

    enough:rotfl:

And do say Thank You when you leave and another smile?
