na...ma comp is only a few months old, i have used about 7GB out of 160GB
i tink i'll jst end up buying more RAM, b4 i go2 uni...or i may get a laptop0 -
If you really have that much space and you are getting out of virtual memory errors, the virtual memory settings must have been set to limit the amount of disk space used. This can be changed in Control panel..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Its almost always better to use ram than hard drive space.
Hard drives are a fraction of the access speed of ram, the more someone relies on virtual memory the slower its going to be to access those files compared to solid state memory.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. If you have maybe 4 slots in the system for RAM, and say only 2 are used, maybe you could fill the other two with 512MB each, and add an extra 1024 MB to the system.
Then you can completely disable the Virtual Memory, because you have plenty of RAM. Your system will run much faster then!!0 -
You can buy faster RAM for your system as it will slow down automatically.matty_c608 wrote:Make sure the clock speed on it is the same as the RAM you buy or it'll fry something in there.0 -
Except on some very rare circumstances. modern system will take any speed of DDR RAM. If you dont match the RAM speed to the existing speed or to the recommended motherboard RAM speed, as mr_fishbulb says, you will take a performance hit.
SDRAM could cause problems if you put PC100 in to a PC133 motherboard or vice versa, but that sort of problem has been ironed out of most motherboarsI no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. I would still run a spyware check to ensure you have no nasties taking up memory.
Try lavasoft ad-aware or search and destroy. Both are free and for best results run them both.0
