The length of time doesn't mean anything
It sounds like your doing something that has maxed out you RAM and is using your virtual memory (uses hard disk apce to supplement ram) to keep going.
Your either running too many programs at once or one very memory intensive program that's taking all of the available ram.
From a quick look, your pc has only 256mb ram. This doesn't leave much ram for running anything once windows XP has its hsare. Best to see about a memory upgrade.
Only two solutions, add more ram or cut down on th programs you are using at any one time.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
you might have spyware taking up processes. Right click on the task bar and goto task manager and then processes (sort by cpu use) and see if anything is taking up your memory.
You should be able to run xp fine on 256mb.
Let me know if you need any further help i do this for my living.I have finally acknowledged my debt.....0 -
Just as a point it took my PC until 4mths until V-Mem was low so I lobbed
in some more RAM and all is fine now...0 -
well...my comp runs VERY VERY slow, when i have Windows Media Player, Microsoft Word, MSN Messenger, a few internet sites open ...all at the same time.
I bought the computer back in August, i currently have 256RAM, 160GB hard drive, XP Home Edition etc etc.
How much would an extra 'slot' cost for a Packard Bell Imedia computer ?0 -
Media Player uses a lot of Ram, and 256 is low anyway spend
about 30 to 40 quid and get at least another 5120 -
Make sure the clock speed on it is the same as the RAM you buy or it'll fry something in there.0

https://www.crucial.com/uk cheapest place for memory if you can afford it goto 1gb. You need to make sure that you buy the correct memory some memory needs to be brought in pairs depending on your pc. But crucial should be able to put you right and its next day deliveryI have finally acknowledged my debt.....0

RAM is the best solution, but as Windows usually uses your whole hard disk space for virtual memory (unless you have changed the default settings), you may just be running out of hard disk space.. check to see if the HD is nearly full, and if so, try running ccleaner to free up some space.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
