im actually at all likely to get a job and if so what it would involve as i DO NOT want to be part of a scam on the hard working public!!!

99.99% certain that you will get a job as they likely take on anyone that has a pulse.

The 'job' you get will be either accosting members of the public in shopping centers or anoying them by knocking on their doors - trying to get them to sign up for a Direct Debit to a charity.

Oh and if you do decide to go for it - ask them if you are on a basic salary or whether it is all commission based.

Got a call from them today along the exact same lines as Wolverine (they asked about management etc) cheers for the advice guys, I'll not go. Gutting like, first interview I've got of this year, got really excited about it, but something about straight to management so quickly didn't feel right, hence why I came here.

Edit: I was given the name of abbey in the email and the number was 02380 659978
  • I was unfortunately suckered into this for more than a couple of months, just happened to be lucky for the first 6 weeks or so, earning "ok" money before I realised something wasn't right.
mystyle marketing and Kdms acquisitions can also be added to the list of "companies" associated with the group working out of the the premises at 2 Bargate. I learnt a lot there, including when to walk away and when something is way too good to be true. Add in some sales skills it wasn't a complete waste. But pretty much.
My trainer who took me out for my observation day didn't understand the term "basic pay " and took it to mean, what I would basically earn.
It's my own fault, I think I was flattered that they thought I was a really strong candidate (I could tie my own tie and shoe laces)
A dangerous organisation for a young person to get involved with, as they make you feel fantastic for a couple of weeks, but very quickly turn it into what is essentially free labour, 60-70 hour weeks maybe making £100 if you were lucky.
Constantly shifting goal posts with regards to advancement and pay.
We were sent away for a weeks road trip, quite a distance from home, and told whilst on location that we would be paying for accommodation if we didn't sell enough. On top of paying for food fuel etc. huge pressure for no returns or rewards.
Managers who allegedly earned £100k + but driving a battered car, iPhone 3G, something doesn't add up.
The amount of times I had sales stolen from me when deputising (leaving merchandise in a shop/factory staff room to collect orders at the end of the day) was obscene.
The tax status of all the staff, managers etc is incredibly dubious , what with the cash in hand payments, and books being kept on the back of receipts.
Also, card payments being taken over the phone, when there was no card machine, members of the team putting through two or even three sales on a card over the phone, as they knew they weren't going to be tracked down.
Any questions, ask me, I would quite like to help others avoid the mistakes I made.

I would just like to first say thank you for this threads existenz, secondly say why.

I myself this same time last year applied for a very fishy Ad for "Think Marketing" based in Edinburgh

(Text removed by MSE Forum Team)

    Address for reference.

I applied out of pressure since no other jobs were going and saying "What do I have to lose?"

I attended the interview...after sitting in their "office" very very cramped for 2 hours, before my "initial" interview came. Sat down and talked selling myself.

Still didn't know the job, all I knew was selling...I can sell.

The talk of 6 to 9 months promotions, fast tracked, and such rung a little bell with me. I said openly said straight to him "That is quit ingenious that. Allowing for you to filter through the debris. They can all mill at the bottom while those who have the drive shoot up the ranks. Avon do the same thing, except Avon has had a 60 year image and reputation with the "AVON Lady". I have a friend who got into it and has gotten alot of perks and manages people. Even has a company car. A pyramid scheme if you will...."

He jumped right on me and said "NO! we are not that." then went onto to explain the exact same with different words.

I know a good amount about sales, selling and marketing so I really impressed the guy, even thou they do take anyone with a pulse.

So I was invited to the shadowing program the next day.
I was not obliviousness to the whole thing as the Avon description scared the hell out of the guy. I knew too much.

    However I was desperate.
Turned up next day I am commuting from Falkirk. Had the Job centre cover my expenses.

I was lead to the same room, and same amount of people. I am waiting...3 hours go by and half the people have been seen too.

The person who was taking me today, came up and said "Sorry, we are running a late, people off sick and we are under manned. would you like to come back later at say 5pm? or come tomorrow?"

I informed them "I commute from Falkirk.....neither is a good option." it was 1pm right now. The guy apparently also used to commute from Falkirk and he laid it down as not a problem, so I took this opportunity to get a straight answer.

Which was Door to Door Sales, around Edinburgh, Self Employed, and I would not see a penny unless I sold 20 a week.

I said that it wasn't something I could do and that I am stretching myself just coming to the interview. Let alone pay my way around Edinburgh door to door, potentially earn no money in 12 hours of work.

He looked at me went and said "sorry." and I left.

Why am I saying this a year late?

Well I did the above on my own. However today this forum saved me from wasting my time and doing the same.

I got a call from a recruitment agency and it was all a bit quick, I said yes as I would rather say yes and then make an excuse or refuse than saying no so flatly.

I got the email of the details. researched the job title. Woman said "sales and customer service." I can do that.....

The email said "Sales Executive." which I thought "That is a little above my weight...isnt it?" researched the job title and turns out it is a very nebulous title.

So decided to research the company.
    The Marketing Company City LTD
    Or The Marketing Company Scotland
or something else as they abbreviate to TMCE apparently.

Found this thread and had everything confirmed it is the exact same.

    FUNFACT!
They are 2 minute walk from THINK Marketing!

So yeah thanks for the forum and people adding to it.
  • Hi, I'm glad I googled this company before automatically replying saying I could attend an interview - it turns out the person emailing me was Jaime Mistry - the same name as I've seen on this thread in association with other sites - so thanks everyone for letting people know about this! Perhaps naively, it would never have occurred to me that people run scams like this - incredibly frustrating when looking for a decent job.
  • Unlike most I've had the pleasure of working for pinnicle promotions in derbt and excelsior of Sheffield, young and niave I respo.ded to a job posted in the paper asking for "energetic and fun loving individuals" for a new office in sheffield I thought that's perfect, no experience neccesary and fast oppertunity to progress to management, perfect. I went to the office in Sheffield city center and was welcomed by a bloke who introduced him self with his full name the pompous p***k as Julian Paul landel-weekes even said hyfon *excuse spelling* ill never forget the interview it was 6 years ago it went Julian: let me start by asking you what you do when ascertain come on the telly.
    Me: turn over.
Julian: what do you do if someone knocks on your door.
    Me: usually answer it.
Julian: exactly, we are in the business of human marketing costs nothing but earns big, if you can have a laugh and have a desire to make money then youve come to the right place. (bearing in mind the office had a desk with a plant and some paper on it) he then said can you do second paet of interview as your enthusiasm is rubbing off on me and would love to get you more interested in the job , I said i can do but ive got work later on , by later on I meant 10 pm as i had to get train back to doncaster, off I went in a car with 4 other lads who were bragging about the mental weed he's just had one of the guys was the bell end rapper/mc/fast talker off xfactor who did stab but just made noises instead of swearing, we got to where we were having 2nd stage interview otherwise known as barnsley city center and stood annoying passers. by with "HEAVEN FORBID YOUR CHILD/A KID YOU KNOW BECOMES TERMINALLY ILL" I thought wow that's a bit much, after 5 hours he mentioned something about the 5 steps , which still to this day have no idea what he was on about, 8 oclock came and I sat in the office and was waiting for Julian Paul landel-weekes to tell me if i got the job or not, an hour layer is gonw from a lay about 18 year old barman to this apparent high earning marketing executive I was. There for 3 days because I realised i hadnt had a contract because as far as i was aware I was on a wishfull 18k salary and yhe leader went to fetch it for me whilst i stood on me own annoying these hardworking people, he didnt come back for me and had. My wallet in the car so had to walk from barnsley to a place called conisborough and got a lift from there home. 4 years later i again applied for a job in a job center asking for proffesional hardworking individuals this time I was interviewed by Danny woods of pinnicle promotions, in the first interview I recognised a picture of a f1 ferrari and mentioned that I don't wanna be part of a theiving , lying and deceptive to "employees" company and told of my experience with excelsior marketing solutions , danny webt on to say that cobra bo longer operate on a promotion on sales performance initiative any more and only promote on monthly achievements, I did tge whole day out thing again and test n what not , got a recogniseable amount of sales in one week of 43 and recieved a massive payment for the 80 hour week of 24 pounds as apperently the rest was in a bond , !!!!!! that was and theres no way of getting to it untill the alloted 8 weeks had past, by the 8th day is had enough of knocking on doors and told Danny that what we are doing IS bordering illegal and that I wasnt going to be part of it and I left , 2 weeks later I got an invoice through for 2000+ pounds for training lol went to court after about 4 hours in court cobra had to pay me what I was owed plus damages and the month of salary which was on the jod advertisement. Cobra group is one massive organisation preying on young and desperate people. Stay well away for yours and your familys sake.
  • I worked for them and did quite well in terms of earning money.
But i would never go back, i realised i was one of the minority that got anything from it. Most people who start leave within a week.
It is not illegal or a scam though. Just a dishonest business, designed to change people’s mind sets. A very clever sales pitch that lasts weeks/months/years.
It is a self employed , commission only role. They are just not upfront about this, so they have the chance to sell the idea of management.
Many people are vulnerable and fall for it, but don’t judge the people who work there too badly, they believe they are right as they have been convinced so. They don’t know what they are lying about as they have been lied to.
I know all the ins and out of the companies, the good and the bad.
But i still take positives from the role, I learnt a lot of skills that have helped me in my jobs since.

I wouldn’t take the advice on anyone who went for an interview and didn’t start too deeply. Find someone who started and got promoted to the second stage ‘leadership’.
They know the ‘pitch’ and ‘tricks’ designed to make you start the job.
They are specifically trained to ‘close’ you on your interview. Strange system when a company has to sell you the roll, instead of you selling yourself for a position.
