Potterton Suprima 50 Lock Out problem

Since my last posting ages ago, Just to let you know, thanks to Compumerv on ebay the PCB in the Potterton boiler is still going fine - no problems at all.
I looked on ebay and they now offer up to 12 months guarantee on their boiler PCB's. I have told other people on our estate and all have been sorted out and saved money.0 -

Depends on age of boiler, when you phone them give serial no. and they will tell you if free of charge, otherwise they offer for fixed fee to come out and replace all parts needed with 12 month warranty...0 -
Ok I moved into a house in April with a Potterton Suprima 50 boiler. The lockout started almost immediately and got worse, until now. I now cannot light the pilot at all - it tries to ignite - I can hear the "click, click, click" of the ignition thingy and the green light flashes, but it won't ignite. So, I'm now thinking that not only is the PCB gone to parts heaven, but that the gas valve could now be gone too - how realistic is this? The boiler is 11 years old.0

Hi
Do you know if the pcb has been replaced ?
Can you see the spark in the window or nothing?
It could be, ht lead defective and shorting.(think of a car HT lead), Pilot light gas solenoid faulty.

I've had the same lockout problem on a Potterton Suprima 60 for several years. It's not frequent so I have lived with pressing the reset button when it happens - life's too busy to deal with an occasional problem, but it's still an absolute pain when it happens.
I'm going to try writing to potterton but from posts I've read I am not optimistic about them replacing the PCB for free, even though it seems to be a design fault and therefore 'not fit for purpose'.
Some posts have referred to Compumerve on ebay as a source of replacement PCBs, but I've looked on ebay and can't find compumerve. Can anyone give a link? (Apologies if someone already has and I've missed it!)
I'm a competent DIY person, usually do all my own plumbing, electrics, etc as far as regulations allow. Is PCB replacement a straightforward job or is it really something I should get done for me?
Many thanks for any advice.0 -
I don't know how many people have had recent success with getting Potterton to fix PCBs for free, but I think its still worth phoning Potterton for info, some people did have good success that way. I had no luck, probably because I'd already changed the PCB (this was before Potterton acknowledged any problems). Have all your info to hand, serial number of boiler, age of boiler etc.
Heres the link for compumerv on ebay, if you choose to go that route.
Changing PCB was fairly easy, once I'd found all the screws to take the panels off. Some of the connections on the PCB were really stiff, had to wiggle them around. I am no DIY expert at all. I've had zero lockouts since the new PCB, thats a year ago. But, as others have said, there is still some chance that the problem is not the PCB, its something else.0 -
Hi Guys,
Can anyone here help, we moved into this house in may (1st home) and boiler has been fine up until a few weeks ago...
The light on the boiler goes to amber and flashes amber and no water or heating comes on !!
When we moved in to the house there was a receipt for a new PCB so i assume this boiler suffered from the red lock out light, which obviously is now fixed....
(there is a booklet replacement part number for the pcb 5111603)
however some days you'll come to turn the bolier on for water and heating and it will come on within 5 mins?
Can anyone help with any suggestions of what to do! this is doing my head in ! thanks!Cheers Petchy0 -
Even though it isnt a lockout problem? and its an amber light?Cheers Petchy0
