I'd love one of those, it's on my Lakeland "wish-list"!

How much is the one you've seen? I've just had a look on the Lakeland site and they don't seem to sell the pizza ovens anymore?

It was £45.99. (or was it £49.99? I can't remember exactly but it's around that price). It's got a proper pizza stone base, which I'm sure will cook the pizzas better than the metal baking tray I usually use. I tend to make pizza every week, so it would get a lot of use, and as it cooks a pizza in 5 minutes it means I can make one with different toppings without having to wait too long. Hmm - does it sound like I'm desperately trying to convince myself I really, really, really HAVE TO HAVE ONE! :rotfl:

Why? Does it do something that your oven doesnt do? Seriously, I'm interested in what it has that an oven doesnt. Making hm pizza is old style but buying a gadet to cook it in is wasting money IMHO. Its not a moneysaving item as far as I can see. I make a lot of pizzas but I dont understand throwing away £49.99 on a gadet to cook them in when an oven will do the same thing. I'd seriously like to know why you want this machine?

Generally, domestic ovens don't get hot enough to provide the initial heat needed to get the dough to rise properly. With pizzas, the toppings tend to make the whole thing rather soggy. I don't know about this gadget, but a pizza stone can really hot so that when you put the risen dough on it, the heat will cause it to quickly expand upwards. You can use an unglazed quarry tile as well, which is far more OS

  • I have two pizza stones I got in aldi for less than £5. They make great pizzas. Its spending £49.99 on a gadget that does the same thing that I dont understand. If it makes sooper dooper pizzas that are much better than the ones I cook in the oven I would consider buying one but if it does the same as an oven and a pizza stone then why waste the cash? Thats the bit I don't get.

Same here; I use a pizza stone (also from Aldi!) and they cook in about 10-15 minutes on the top shelf of my oven at 220C. I prefer very thin crust, mind...

Looks fab but I think I would use it until the novelty wears off then go back to the normal oven :embarasse

Me and gadgets just don't get on at all :rotfl:

I'd love a pizza stone. Unfortunately we don't have an Aldi over here. I could get the ferry for £25 (if that reduced fare is available). Then I'd have to find a way to get to the nearest Aldi and back to the ferry. Or I could take my car on the ferry for £128 return.

I'll have to see if I can find an unglazed quarry stone over here, otherwise the cheapest option for me would be this gadget
  • I bought a Pizza Stone from Amazon a couple of weeks ago, it was around £13. More pricey than Aldi but I think it was some time ago they had them in so obviously they weren't around now.
I've used it twice since and works very well. Could do with another one now though!

If you use a metal tray after heating your oven to max. heat for a while the pizza crust cooks well.

It is much more economical to make a large tray of pizza (in the metal trays already provided in the oven) than to make and cook separately a lot of individual pizzas.

I would not want yet another gadget in my kitchen, but I can see that some people might find the pizza maker quite appealing in its simplicity of use.

Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
