March regular overpayment of £500 has hit the mortgage account.

Hopefully be adding another £300 (in stages) before the end of the month.

    Hi zav & thank you,

Yes I'd love to join in, saving & paying my debts as fast as I used to spend it is my new obsession!

I don't want to over stretch myself & find it too hard, I have done a budget & soa but I work freelance & have top-up benefits so my income is varied so as a worse case sanario, on my lowest pay that month I'm gonna aim for paying off the interest on top of my regular payments which at the moment is roughly £25 a month (I know this may not seem a lot but my income is very low too, I'm looking for permanent work).

Ive added you so you have a shiney number all of your own, would you mind adding this to your sig please so I can find you easily when I update each month. Let me know what you want putting down as your target then you will have something to aim for at the end of the year.

GOOD LUCK and again - WELL DONE for taking the control back

  • Hey zav,

I'm gonna go for it and say £1200 for full year, £100 a month & try catch up with Jan & Feb too!

So I think this is right £1200/£0 (March)/£90 overpayment so far. I'll try get it to £300 by the end of the month, it is pushing it a bit but just makes me more determined & more frugal.

My mortgage is small but my income at the moment is too but I only have 10 years left on the mortgage, I would like to aim for MF in 5 years but if I don't get a job soon, I think it'll be more like 7 years. Every little helps whatever happens & I'd just like to throw as much money as possible at it while interest rates are low!

Thanks again for the inspiration. :T

I can't begin to explain how much better I feel. About 2 weeks ago I got a friend to help my call all my creditors & set up dd, help me sort out a budget etc. So while on a role I found this web site, compared my insurances etc and all of a sudden things don't seem half as bad. I still have a long way to go but I've gone from not answering the phone, not opening mail, taking pot luck at the cash point to the realality of possibly being debt & mortgage free in 7 years.

Good for you for having the courage to do this :T

  • Thanks, the thought of sorting it all out was so much worse than actually sorting it out. My debt wasn't as bad as I thought but I would advise any one, just having their lightbulb moment, mine was more a head out of sand moment, I knew I had a problem but just didn't want to deal with it, to get it even if it's just from a friend to help sort & make calls. I got to emotional & upset and also if I was put on hold or put through to another department etc, I would put the phone down and get hacked off. I was on had to give permission but I felt so empowered by the end of the day then found you guys!

It took a day to get the ball rolling probably a week at the most to get the last payment slips etc through. It's not half as frightening as the thought of it & I think sometimes no matter how bad it's a relief, I was so lucky my problems weren't as bad as I thought, it's my credit rating and probably 'forgotton' debt that's my problem now, oh & being unemployed!
So that's my next task getting my credit rating!

    Thanks again.

  • I've just made an overpayment of £1.57 because the odd pence was bugging me & the bank called to ask me why! :rotfl:

Although I know such a tiny amount is funny, it does make the reduction clearer, I can see it coming down when I round it down!

Actually just added it up & if I only paid £1.57 a day for the month, that would be twice the amount of monthly interest I pay!!

    hi
Mortage overpayment of £40 has come out so this brings total for year so far to £80. I keep telling the Building Society not to reduce the amount I am paying every time the interest rate changes so hopefully will have a larger amount at the end of the year than I thought.

Well done to all for their continued overpaying and to those who are just starting, we can do it!!!
Mortgage free as at 1/9/13 :j
To start work on the credit cards now!!
