Number 126 .... with the March O/P !
Another £1019.95 (somehow). The £1000 is our monthly target and the £19.95 is a "fine" because we buckled and got a take out during Feb -- making a take-out for two effectively "cost" double sure encourages us to find something edible in the cupboard nearly every time! [ and helps the O/P when we do give in ]
Apparently this single O/P is saving me 22p every single week day.
Now the end-of-tax-year quandry ... to fill my ISA (& re-invest 5k of Ex-icesave ISA) or to take it off the mortgage.... ? Hmm../me0 -

Difficult choice this year isn't it?Our Scarborough BS ISAs have now been reduced to 2% from 01 April. So we're going to cash them in as our mortgage is 3%. However First Direct is doing a 7% regular saver ISA so I may reduce OPs to pay into this for a year.;)
 Stressed out with my OH today he keeps spending money on ebay etc, far more than he realised so I itemised his statements over past couple of months to show him how much. He was totally shocked. How? anyway I have suggested an ebay ban and cash withdrawals monthly for spending money. Hopefully this will work- its really frustrating when I've been trying so hard to save money.
Good luck for March everyone!2016 MFW OPd £2000, 2015 MFW OPd 3000 then bought new bigger house with bigger mortgage.Beautiful boys born May 2011 and October 2013

Love this thinking by Cake21-Me thinks I will be spending less in the shops now--Thank you Cake21:A
"Very roughly my mortgage overpayments end up saving me twice that amount in interest. So if I can save £10 on the shopping, then that's another £20 in mortgage interest saved. Does help rein my spending in as I think "would I still want it if it was 3x the price?" (sometimes works anyway! :rotfl:) and I definitely think every little helps :j"0 -
No 181 checking in. March mortgage overpayment of £482.43 has now gone off the mortgage, giving a YTD total of £1390.46 or 46.35% of my 2009 total.
Looks like I'm going to make the £3000 op by end of June thanks to Nationwide keep dropping my interest rate. Currently paying 1.28%. I hope they cut rates again tomorrow.
I will pm Zavarony with the numbers to add to the first post
Well done to everyone else with their overpayments so far this year. I think we can make the £1 million total.:j [/COLOR]
01/07/03 £115,000 original mortgage completion date July 2020
2/07/10 £63657 MFD now 12/2014 five years seven months early :j0 -
Hi - is it too late to join? I've been reading for ages but haven't got round to posting yet. I've recently accepted a new job with an increase in salary so I'm looking to put all of the increase into reducing my mortgage.
From May I'm aiming for monthly overpayments of £999 - this is the most I can make a month without charge. I'm also aiming for £18k in savings by April next year which I'll pay to the mortgage when my fixed term ends in April 2010 - this would take it from £160000 now to £120000 in April next year if I'm really good!
Thanks and good luck to everyone already signed up!
Hiya Louba.

Just post your target for the year and any overpayments you make in 2009.

I'm very new to all this & don't have a very big income at the moment. I have some debts, which are frozen, which I am slowly paying off. I can't change banks, mortgage companies, I have no credit or debit cards and can't get credit.
I have been reading the post for a few weeks & have compared & changed insurances, I have pre-payment meters which I cannot change and what I would like to know is it still worth putting any extra cash into paying my mortgage off early. I feel trapped as I will be unable to get another mortgage.
I have made 2 small over payments this year which were the same amount as the interest.
All help would be greatly appreciated. (I am severly dyslexic and unable to fill-in forms, tables & calculators, I am able to read post but very slowly!)
Thank you for all your insiration so far.
Welcome to the thread.
Generally, the golden rule is pay off the debts first and then the mortgage second. The debts will cost you more than the same amount owed on the mortgage.
Even if you can't overpay on the mortgage, feel free to post on the thread, We will give you all of the help we can.
By the way, don't look on the fact that you don't have a credit card as bad. There are millions of us who would want to be without credit card debt.

#266 checking in with overpayment for February. A paltry £24.82
Other priorities took over this month.
Don't be hard on yourself. That's £24.82 more than I've overpaid in the previous 7 1/2 years!
