Difficult to say, they're all very similar. My own prejudices based on using their products at work would tempt me towards the Linksys but they'd probably all be fine all told.

I had the Belkin router connected to my Zoom ADSL modem. It worked flawless and the setup took 2 mintes and was very easy. wireless reception was excellent and even worked from my front room right down to my back garden (over 110 meters with a 11MBps connection speed). leaves my netgear standing, unfortunately its the only way to use my ADSL2 connection so had to say byebye to the belkin.
  • in my experience and i have setup about a 100 for my company i would recommed netgear (most expensive) or d link.

I have had the most problems with belkin.

    Just my 2 cent

  • Hi phil, Well, I did buy a Netgear from ebay a Mr814 however I keep losing internet connection and was wondering if there was something wrong with it. When I bought it I got a usb adapter included, now if I buy a new router maybe a different make would I still have to use the usb adapter or would I have to buy some else in addition to a new router. Thanks, (as you can tell, I havent got a clue) !!
  • the usb adaptor should work ideally it is better to same brands but it should work fine.

How do you have your mr814 setup? How often does it lose connection? What is the version of firmware?

To find the version number login to the router (pm me if you need assistance with this) and then it should be in there.

Check the netgear support site. It shows a lot of thier routers lose connection.. Although in my case it was a combination of wrong MTU in router and line speed changing slightly (now capped to stop this). mine was a DG834GT
  • Hi again, It is definately version 1 the bottom one. I have read for hours the netgear website. I did think about firmware but havent a clue how to do it. I downloaded the firmware files but when I try to upgrade it says something about them being .bin files and I dont know how to do it. I loose connection after about 5 mins and then the only way i can get it going is to turn everything off a start again.
  • ok firstly confirm the model number

    http://kbserver.netgear.com/support_details.asp?dnldID=634

then if its the right model click on the bin file at the bottom and inside the router http://192.168.1.1 (thats a guess) but if you goto start / run and type cmd click ok and type ipconfig and enter it will give you the gateway goto that address in IE and then you will be able to access the router and upload the firmware

If you explain step my step what you are doing i will try and fill in the gaps
