Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
Hot dogs with fried onions and lots of tomato ketchup. :D It's what we always had after fireworks when I was a kid, and I've never quite got out of the habit.

That reminds me, actually - I'll have to find a firework display to go to this year - I now live in a ground floor flat and I can't watch everyone else's from there. :( I love fireworks and can't go without my yearly dose!

Oh, and I must find a recipe for parkin, too, now davetrousers has reminded me of it. Haven't had any in years!
Back after a very long break!

Yes, we have Barm brack but it is available all year round now, so not as special as it used to be. We all used to fight over the "gold ring" lovely memories.
  • Well I hopefully won't be doing too much for Firework night this year as my first baby is due the day before!

I personally think that jacket potatoes with chilli and sour cream are very hard to beat, with a nice mulled wine or warmed cider.

Perhaps a few loud bangs might wake baby enough to get things rolling for you ;)

As a kid we always had soup in a mug. So as tradition I shall be buying (sorry OS'ers not making this from scratch :o) coxtail soup :rotfl:
Only in reality it's Oxtail soup but coxtail is always what I called it :rotfl:

Its usually jacket pots with chilli for us...but the kids always want hotdogs! and roast chestnuts are a fave too
  • Don't normally do anything special...but I was thinking about this the other day...

When I was little mum used to do jacket potatoes, sausages and HM Garlice Bread - all cooked while the oven was on for the tatties.

I think we used to have baked beans with it.

I used to love the jacket spuds as I think it was the only time we used to have them and sausages cooked in the oven taste different....

    Hi folks,

OH and I have come up with the ultimate money saver for fireworks night - we live in a flat with awesome 360 views of London so we're going to buy a packet of sparklers and watch everyone else's fireworks :) Lots of friends have been on at us to have a gathering that night ever since we moved in in March (the views really are good).

Anyway, last night was budget night, and thanks to a big reduction in OH's student loan (stupid NHS bursary grrr) we need to be very careful. So what can I make that's quick, cheap and yummy for bonfire night? We don't need to give people their dinners, just some snacks. I've asked everyone to bring a bottle and I'm going to make a load of spiced apple to drink.

I have a pretty full store cupboard and the following:
    Lots of bacon
A small pumpkin (but we don't celebrate halloween so nothing spooky please)
    Some parsnips
3 cooking apples but they're on their last legs now and it's next week!

    We're expecting 10-20 people...
