how about jacket potatoes & chilli with soured cream or beans and/or cheese for those who don't like chilli? Few crisps, breadsticks with dips, sausage rolls, pizza, savoury rice:

Your mains sound yum - samosas/ bhajis, chana marsala is a good cheap side dish esp if you use dried chick peas - or indeed some roasted spices chick peas in dishes as a nibble instead of crisps, and some bombay mix.

parkin or gingerbread cupcakes for pudding - a good winter warm cake? I went to a bonfire party last year that had a toffee/ caramel fountain instea dof a choc one - oh my!!

Have you thought about doing a bolognaise rather than sheps pie? I did a huge pot for 10 friends last weekend with a couple of bags of cheap dried pasta shapes and some garlic baguettes. Quicker than having to peel loads of potatoes for mash toppping.

I had friends round for bonfire night last year I just made a big pot of homemade soup with crusty bread and then hot dogs and veggie hot dogs may not be to your liking but it was easy and everyone enjoyed it.

    Hi,

We,re doing something similar on fireworks night.

We,re having Baked Potatoes with either Chilli or HM colslaw, HM bread, dips, chicken wings and veggie samosa and a pavlova or chocolate brownies for afters. Hot choclate for nondrinkers/kids and a sherry or 2 for those that wish;)

Whatever you make in the end, remember your mates are there to see you not your food :D

I alwas think soup goes down well on bonfire night, out of mugs and with sausage rolls. When you are frozen and standing to eat at most buffets, a mug is easier than a plate and a fork and a separate drink.

I'd do something warming, stlish and seasonal.

Otherwise, I think OPs plans for curry are reall good fun. :)

The shepherds pie is a must, one of the guests doesn't eat anything foreign (LOL) so chilli or spag bol is out. Everyone is looking forward to the curry.

Great idea about asking everyone to bring a dish (less work for me too), they will bring booze too, otherwise the drinks bill would be huge!

Might do some red velvet cupcakes too, they go down well. I make a nice carrot cake & lemon drizzle, but chocolate fudge cake would be more popular.

Will make a note of all your side dish ideas.

A big pot of chilli has always been our bonfire night food - good with the jacket potatoes, or do some rice too :)
