What about lentil soup and stovies ? It's definately winter food for our family and we always end up making it if having friends round for New Year/Halloween etc. It's pretty cheap to make as well as being tasty and both can be made earlier in the day and reheated.

Can I have the recipe for stovies? Remember having this years ago but don't know how to cook it.

Minskerella - I remember going to a bonfire party a couple of years back and we had a BBQ. It was fantastic. The usual sausages, drumsticks, & burgers. For drinks we had hot chocolate with marshmallows. Yum! :coffee: Definitely the last BBQ of the year. Gonna be a long time 'til the next one!

  • I'd go for chilli too - it's lovely!

    Stovies

We normally make them with potatoes, cooked sausages, onions and stovie dripping which we get from a local butchers. The stovie dripping is basically the fat/gravy that's came off cooked meat. If I can't get stovie dripping then I just use lots of gravy made from granuals and water.

Basically just chuck everything into a pan and put enough gravy to cover everything and leave to cook. The potatoes soak in the gravy. It's a cheap but really filling meal.

Some people use roast beef or corned beef instead of sausages - depends on how rich we're feeling at the time !

ooooo, reading this thread has made me want to have a fireworks party at my house :)

mmmm, baked potatoes, veggie chilli & cheese for me please :)

A BBQ sounds like a fab idea too & an ideal way to give the garden some heat!!

Do you actually have a bonfire though? We've got quite a big garden but I wouldn't feel safe having a bonfire
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...
  • Traditional baked spuds in the bonfire! We used to wrap them in foil and pot them under the fire..... not sure the best way of doing it now though... maybe nuke them first them put in the bonfire to finish off. :)

  • Oh and also maybe marshmallows on very long sticks, to avoid possible burns and being sued by everyone lol.!

One year I did a corned beef hash with a crust for the adults and hot dogs for the children. Every single adult ended up having a hot dog! My advice?...... do hotdogs :D
Just run, run and keep on running!
