I'd give my vote for Eset Smart Security (after using many different ones including all the free alternatives).

Agreed. I used to have Norton which was very slow and every time it wanted tp look for updates would hog 100% of the CPU. Although to be fair, I haven't tried Norton 2009 which is getting better reviews. ESET is much quicker and runs in the background without using much processing power, even when updating.
  • pretty sure kaspersky gets very cheap if you are a student, but I can't remember the link (same place as cheapo vista/office etc)

Another Vote for Eset Smart Security. Best one I have ever used and I have tried most of the popular free ones as well as Norton, Mcafee etc.

However If you can get Kaspersky at a cheap price that is another very good suite.

I agree, though http://theultimatesteal.co.uk prices are even better (as long as you have an .ac.uk email address) for Office and Vista. Although their Vista upgrade is still not available yet (despite that we're now 2 days after the available date). I was waiting to get Visio Pro (and also possibly the Vista Upgrade).

Are you sure this is a legitimate site as they offer versions of MSOffice at low prices, BUT you only get a key to download which I understood Microsoft don't allow?
  • the URL is http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-uk/default.aspx

I would imagine microsoft would know what was going on on their site, so yes, it is legitimate

Microsoft don't allow retailers to do that or other companies. Bit different when it's them themselves.

E.g. you can download and get keys for FREE for things like Visual Studio 2008 Pro, Windows Server 2008 and Expression Studio 2 from www.dreamspark.com.
