You might have a problem if you don't have the current account. On the other hand you may be able to open it at the same time in branch. Lots of work. Good luck in the branch!

    I'm going there now, thanks

So rather than open it online, I'd be better of going into a Halifax branch to open it and fund it immediately as I yet do not have a current account with them?
If you're already using their online service, you could open both accounts online and fund internally.

If not, I'd use the branch!

Strange problem here. I opened without depositing, then finally got them to credit the account from my Halifax current account by phoning up.

However when I look at my account the interest shows 'NIL' and the account shows as an 'enquiry only service'

Did anyone else open online and put the deposit in later and have this result?

update: they say wait 24 hours. I would have thought waiting past the nightly rollover at 3am would have sufficed but we will see

Yes mine also said NIL for interest rate for a couple of days. I too opened without depositing from a Halifax account and was unable to make an online transfer to it from any another Halifax account for the same period of time.
However I was able to fund it very shortly after opening using a faster payments transfer from my First Direct current account.

Nice one! Good to know it is the normal shambles then!

hmmm. It took me several calls before Halifax staff could credit the account!
  • I opened a current account & the Guaranteed Saver Account today (Sat) with a cheque for £2500. There’s something I’d like to be clear on:

Within the next 7 days I intend to deposit considerably more than my opening deposit; however, if Halifax pulls the present rate (6%) before I deposit more funds will these funds still get the 6% or will it just be the £2500 that gets it.

There is the joy of the account.

6% fixed on everything you pay in for the remainder of the 12 months (so if you have a 3 month account maturing in January, that can be moved across then to get 6%!).

    That's nice to know, Thanks.

Glad to see everything went OK. I was worried today was going to be the withdrawal day.
