  • Yes, but you should be OK so long as they don't pull it early
For a limited time only, we're offering a great savings rate of 6% AER to anyone with a qualifying current account who opens, and makes the opening deposit into a Halifax Guaranteed Saver Reward before 1 December 2008.
Note 1st is a Monday, so is a banking day. Hope we don't get to 30th November and see all the "am I still in time?" posts though...

Sorry, I should have been clear. I knew about the Dec 1st deadline. I meant between opening and getting the initial deposit in

ah sorry, that I don't know - didn't pay much attention to what it said as I was transferring straight in.

I think it's the same by 1 Dec deadline. But their leaflets also state that the offer can be closed before 1 December. I am not sure whether any earlier closure would affect accounts already opened but not yet funded by £2,500 or more. The 6.0% fixed interest runs from the date of the first deposit, not the date of opening the account.

Another word of warning. If you don't fund the account during the online application you cannot do it online. You have to phone them up and they have to credit the account. Make sure you tell them it is an opening balance. Still it is done. I wouldn't be surprised to see it pulled early. In branch last Saturday they said they had rate changes on Saturday morning.

Same happened to me. its lets you get to the end stages of transfering then says you have an error and the transaction can't be processed. I had to call them today and they actioned the transfer from my current to saver account within the hour. Glad I managed to get this account.. its not a bad one with the rate and 4 withdrawals.

If I were to open this account online; would I still get the 6% if the rate dropped before I had deposited funds?

No. You must fund it before the product is pulled, whereas the Bank of Scotland IASA Reward (5.8%) allows you 14 days to fund.

So rather than open it online, I'd be better of going into a Halifax branch to open it and fund it immediately as I yet do not have a current account with them?
