Item left at checkout - would you return later and ask for a replacement?

Ok, I was unpacking my shopping from Tesco and realised that I was down a jar of coffee. It's not one of those things that could have fallen out quietly! And I walk home from Tesco so the bags weren't put in a car boot or anything. So I am pretty sure that it just wasn't packed at the checkout (would be my fault as I didn't ask the checkout operator to help).
Would you go back to the shop and tell them the story and hope they see your side, or just live and learn?

Yeah I would, I think they might be nice and believe you (because how many people would go back saying this and be lying?)
I had a houmous without a lid, and went back to somerfield and they gave me a new one.
I was charged for 2 jams when I only bought one, and Sainsburys gave me the 60p or so back.
Different situations but they've always been really nice and not questioned refusing me. Take in the receipt with the coffee circled0 -
They'd probably have picked it up anyway, and it may be sitting at Customer Service waiting for you! I left £10 at at Self Service Till last week (In the cashback bit) and some very lovely person had handed it in when I went back to ask about it! :T Definately worth going back-maybe call the store and check first?Best 2018 wins: £1500, £500 John Lewis voucherBest 2019 wins: 18 of the latest DVDsBest 2020 wins: £100 cash 2021 wins: 130 books 2021 wins: Jubilee silver necklace 2023: 8xfootball shirts, Spar vouchers, £200 Tesco voucher,0

It's definitely worth a try. In the shop I used to work in we had a book in which we wrote down anything that was left behind by customers with the time and date.0

There's a good chance it'll be at customer services so worth an ask next time you're in. They have a book and note down the till number things are left on so they'll be able to check easily for you0

I'll second everything said. I bought a roll of wrapping paper in morrisons but after paying I let the little un go on the toy car and left the paper on the floor. Only remembered when i got home, phoned morrisons and they had it waiting at cust svcs for me to pick up. Defo phone them and ask.0

This happened to my boyfriend. He bought 17p (or some odd pence) paracetamol and a bottle of water. But for some bizarre reason after he paid for it on the self-service he accidentally walked off without picking it up.
Got back to the car and realised and it must have been less than five minutes but it had already gone from the till area. He still had his receipt so went to customer services. However they didn't believe him!
Who would go back in if they hadn't geniuenly leave it there?!
He was really annoyed as it was the last of the change he had and he still had his headache. I think it depends what customer service person you get.
Good luck0 -
Yes, we left a carrier bag of stuff at our Tesco once. DH went back. They'd already put it back on the shelf (we live about 20 min drive away), but they had it logged in their folder, so they got it all back for us once they'd seen the receipt.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

I'd phone first and explain - that way you can just pick it up next time your at the store instead of making a special trip.0

We left 2 frozen pitzas at the checkout at Tesco and didn't realise until we got home. I phoned the store, they asked for the till number from the bottom of the receipt, checked and said they had found them. Just told us to go to customer services next time we went as it had been put in their book. They gave us a refund as they were out of stock when we went.0

Yes, you should. I used to work in Tesco - they keep a left behind book at the Customer Service Desk with a record of items that customers have paid for and left behind. If you don't return and claim it you'll simply be adding to Tesco's profits. That's assuming you definitely left it behind in the supermarket!0
