Some very interesting things on this thread thank you. Some of it though, like netmums, is aimed only at Sahms, and it appears all of you are sahms (fair enough, the thread's about sahms!). I'm a sahd, and it's a little more difficult for us to network like you women! I do hope you don't mind me butting into the thread!

I do go to a couple of local playgroups, but I never seem to get as warm a welcome as the Mums. I don't think anyone means it, I suppose they like their women's natter and I don't get included. If there was a single Dads' group I'd join that but there isn't as far as I know. I have lots of friends locally but of course they all work during the days.

Any advice for single (and broke!) fathers greatly appreciated! The watching planes take off and land idea is excellent as our local airport is very close. There is a lovely park with a large duckpond locally too but any other ideas would be fabulous.

PS. I have ordered that book Lizbeth. Thank you!
  • I really am so grateful for all of your replies, thank you:j I am going to write out all of these ideas and stick them on my fridge so that we are never stuck for something to do. :o

Keep 'em coming if anyone has anymore :T

Maybe the Council (department that deals with parent & toddler groups) could point you in a direction of a dads' group? Stay at Home Dads links to couple of sites it says to check out, but I guess you've prob looked on the net already:

Either your Mom (are you American??) was a crap cleaner or your house was filthy.

I love the implication that all the little woman needs is some Stardrops to be content.

    That's actually very rude!

Oh, and MOM isn't ALWAYS American. My MOM is Irish.:p

It was supposed to be rude. Rob is an idiot and has proved it time and again. His cleaning post was a prime example.

Thank you everyone who replied to my rather impudent post!

I may have undersold myself by giving the impression that I have no imagination or creative spark to entertain a child in a simple way and invent little games, whereas I do. But I do appreciate all suggestions and, Sarahsaver, your one about setting up a Dad's group is a good one and I am going to see if I can get any support for that. And I will look up those weblinks that some others have kindly posted.
