Interesting. The SIA say that they cannot help in disputes, people should talk to trading standards. 20% of Trading standards could not help at all, most of them said to contact the SIA. SIA could not provide any answer to this.

Interesting link Tom, some real horror stories there. What really annoys me is that we are supposed to live in the U.K. but there are so many different laws/rules for England, Scotland and Wales. Why cant we enjoy the clamping legislation down here dont get me going on University fees and free prescriptions !!
  • clamping may be annoying, but ive never been clamped and have little sympathy for people who do

You need to wake up to what actually happens because one day your little oasis of moral high ground will be affected.

  • When I park i look round for signs and dont park there if i should not

If i think there is a possibility that i might be late back i will either buy more time than i need or park somewhere where i will get a fine rather than a clamp

If people did not take the !!!! these clampers would have nothing to do and would find another job

I have never been clamped myself but have experience with people who has. The majority of clampers are scumbags and parasites.

So you're basing your opinion of them solely on the anecdotal and completely biased point of view of people who got clamped?

Did they tell you they willingly parked on private land that didn't belong to them, in other words trespassing, or exceeded the time they'd paid for or parked illegally?

I'd be happy with that if the clampers
-didn't tow car away without clamping first
-did not charge £400 to return
    -didn't only accept cash
-did actually pay back any monies when a court case rules against them

Surely you can pay bailiffs to take the money? (or however it's done)

    All together now:

"Don't speed and you won't get a ticket"

"I don't mind having to carry an ID card, I've got nothing to hide"

"Of course the police should detain terror suspects for 42 days, innocent people have nothing to fear from this"

It's attitudes like this that allow us to sleepwalk into a Big Brother police state. I thought the point of consumer forums like MSE was for people to stand up and be counted, against the petty bureaucrats that want to control our lives and extort our hard earned cash.

BTW if anyone ever tries to clamp my car, I've got a petrol driven anglegrinder in the boot.

I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.
