When trick or treaters call

Am I a bit 'old fashioned' in thinking lots of kids have lost their manners? (I'm only 18 though!)
We have an organised trick or treat in my village where everyone meets and then goes round as a group of 20 or so kids. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind halloween or kids knocking on doors but you would've thought they'd have said thank you for all the sweets we were giving them!
Out of the 20 odd kids outside, only 2 of them said thank you - those 2 got to share the remainder of the lollies after we had given everyone a couple.
Maybe that'll teach the rest of them to say thanks on the rest of their round!! Maybe it was a bit mean...?!0 -

We always put a lit, carved pumpkin in the window to let people know it's ok to call, and this year we had a little plastic toy skeleton on the door too. To be honest though, I don't think most trick or treaters or parents would even think about it.0

Ours were very good, I could here them coming up the street and calling out, "There's a pumpkin, we can call here!" All of mine were very polite, even those who tried to take half the sweets said thank you.
The only child who had to be prompted was a tiny little Hulk who was very, very shy.0 -
It's nice when they are considerate and polite. I think most of our callers were, although there was the odd group of teens wearing just a mask (or no costume at all) and carrying plastic bags who were a bit too rowdy and ungrateful, but overall it was ok.Property buying/selling timeline - currently into week 21

hi all - gracie I think it's lovely to have someone who gets into the spirit of things such as yourself. It was ds1's birthday today so we always make a big thing of halloween and I took them around our little culdesac and about half of the houses - even some with decorations - just didnt answer the door. The kids dont understand why not when they're obviously in - lights on, car in the drive and it really makes me think bah humbug to you then! It really doesnt take much to buy a bag of sweeties and enter into the spirit of it!MANAGED TO CLEAR A 3K OVERDRAFT IN ONE FRUGAL, SUPER CHARGED MONEY EARNING MONTH!:j

I have to agree with other posters - in that there's been a definite lack of trick or treaters this year! We made up 50 goodie bags, and decorated the house etc. We only had about 10 in total!!! (last year was a fairly warm night and we ran out of bags after about an hour) It's about -3 this year.
Where we live, all the children prepare a joke or a poem or a song as their treat, so it's usually great fun listening to them.
My daughters was, "An American goes into the toilet, an American comes out of the toilet ... what nationality is he whilst he's in there" ... anwer, "European" (I didn't get it, but she thought it was hilarious)
Her friends was, "what do you do to a baby astronaut to get it to sleep" ... answer, "Rock it" (I peed my pants at that one!!)
However, they chose not to go trick or treating as it was too cold, and sat in eating pumpkin instead!!0 -
We usually get some people coming every 15 minutes basically, but we've had none at all this year, and we had some sweets ready for them.
People don't say trick or treat round here much, it's normally:
"The sky is blue, the grass is green, have you got a penny for Hallowe'en?"
When I went out when I was younger, we always got money, then year after year there was less money and more sweets. We never complained mind =]. All the "hard kids" would egg people's houses if they weren't given as much money as they thought they deserved.0 -
We had a little Halloween tea party for my 2 Boys (6 and 3) and my Friends 2 Children (3 and 2), then took them trick or treating, then came back and played a few party games....they went to bed at 9.30pm, so I am hoping them will sleep in a bit later tomorrow!
I put pumpkin fairy lights in our Window and a real pumpkin, but only had 3 lots of trick or treaters call . Guess who will be eating the leftover sweeties tonight:o
