Wanna new phone? Can you wait til Jan?

Info for everyone here that wants to buy a new mobile phone.

Wait until the second week in January and buy from an independent retailer. Reason being is that the networks offer huge incentives to retailers if they sell X amount of contracts over peak season - when it gets to the second week of January (normally the deadline) the independent retailers start offering silly deals in order to secure their large bonus from the networks.

Generally the best networks for this are O2 & Vodaphone but only when bought through an independent retailer (don't buy directly from the network), you should get free line rental, loads of free minutes, free text messages or a good rebate deal.

The independent retailer (if they do there own credit scoring) will reduce the credit score needed to secure these deals too - again just to get the quantity of sales they need to get a big wad of cash!

Look out for Vodaphone 3G, lots of good deals coming up!!

Hopefully this will help - if I get hold of deadline dates then I will let you know!

I had ordered an Erricson on Vodafone on 18 months contract, with 12 months cashback from Carphone warehouse. They said they were out of stock but I could back order. Having waited three weeks they now tell me they have cancelled the order and wont have that offer again.

Ive spoken to them and they have offered me another phone but with no cashback or discount so I shant bother.

E2 is offering a Motorola on 18 months contract, with 8 months rebate. I am tempted but if you say there will be better offers on in a couple of weeks...............
  • I did upgrade with Vodafone, but returned the phones as I was not particularly happy with the deal they offered (oh, that's right, they didn't!). Was considering waiting until after Xmas, so sounds like this might be the best option! What do you mean by independent retailer? Phones4U, CPW etc?

.....however, O2 do seem to be offering a good deal on their new i-mode phones: 1000 mins and 150 texts for £35 a month. Anyone any experience of these handsets?

Basically NOT a network store, so CPW, phones4U etc.

Even Tesco are starting to stock phones on behalf of networks in their larger stores!
