Broadband - Message 'no Dail Tone'

anyone help, this has been going on now for about a month and cannot figure it out, I have tried everthing. I was with AOL and it just started to happen, I couldnt get connected and the message 'no dial tone' kept coming up. I have unplugged and plugged and uninstalled and installed, checked phone line via a extension phone lead etc etc. I then thought it was something to do with AOL and changed to Virgin, and AHHHHHH its happening again.
Anyone had this problem and fixed it as I dont know what to do next?
Thanks

We are having the same problem! It started about a week ago, so I rang the Demon helpline (0871 prefix  ),A guy said it was my internal connection. ie my indirect connection from wall socket to PC. He suggested that I unplug my micro filters and connect via extension lead to wall socket. This helped initially but i've had sporadic disconnections and slowdowns ever since however I configure my connection. Hope this helps
Also my ISP "DEMON" said in July that my connection speed would be increased from 512kpbs to 2mbps for no extra cost by September. Not a chance, still 512 quite often slooooowwwwweeeerrrrrr.0 -
This is a common problem with some ADSL broadband software. After logging (turning your PC) on you should see a green triangle in bottom right of the screen. If this is absent then your software hasn't "booted up". Next course of action is to "re-boot" i.e. log off and on again on your PC until the green triangle appears. If this doesn't work then assuming that you still have the ISPs CD Rom, uninstall and reinstall the software. Fingers crossed this should solve the problem. If this works then go online to the modem manufacturers web site and download the lastest software for your modem.

I have removed my unwanted ISP's (there was only one other). I have removed Limewire because I know this can be a pain. I have installed and reinstalled many times.
SCISSORS - He suggested that I unplug my micro filters and connect via extension lead to wall socket - sorry dont understand can you elaborate please - do you mean the small double sockets which connects two phones. Out of curiosity what Broadband supplier are you on?
I was thinking myself it could be the cable from the computer to the phone socket, I think I am now cluthing at staws but I am going to buy a new one tomorrow and see if that works, or could it be the connection on the computer which I plug into and then into the phone socket could that be broken.
I have e-mailed Virgin to see if they come up with anything, I doubt it especially if they are anything like AOL - didnt have a clue.
Any more ideas - I WILL TRY ANYTHING - if you can help it will be much appreciated.
Thank you all for your suggestions, its nice to have someone to help (especially when it doesnt cost 25p a minute).0 -

if you unscrew the front of the Main BT wall socket the bottom half will unplug and show another socket, called the Test Socket, plug direct into this as it is connected direct to the BT line and eliminates all the extension wiring in the house
other time i have seen this is because the old dial up modem was also plugged in at the same time (even though its not in use )Ex forum ambassador

Thank you Browntoa, I will have a go tonight, I have a old house though and have a box on the wall which comes in from outside and then a socket box, will the test socket still be in the socket? It seems to play up mostly in the evening probably at the time everyone is phoning or using the internet.0

If your using an Analogue modem, it could be something to do with call waiting (1571) - you need to un check a tick box, but can't remember which one0
