By the way the text message came from a UK number +44 (0) 826798944
JW1234 - Are you sure that numbers right? 0826* hasn't been assigned to anyone according to Oftel, and 082 numbers are assigned to "Internet For Schools". Is it actually 07826 798 944? Numbers starting 078267 are assigned to Vodafone which would correlate with what I'm seeing.0 -
i have had exactly the same message, came from 07786 4095520

It's a Vodafone number... I think I might be seeing a pattern emerge here.0 -
Just pulled all the numbers received from at WhoCallsMe:

07786409543
07786409547
07786409549
07786409551
07786409552
07786409560
07826798944
07899782005
T-Mobile

They've obtained a block of Vodafone numbers... And I'd be willing to lay £100 on them all being Pay As You Talk...
I'd love to know how they've pulled that off though. Probably bought a stash of SIM cards from a shop.0 -
I literally just recieved this message (exactly the same as quoted by jw1234 & gazoakley).
Though this was from +44 (0)7786409599
Anyone reported this to Ofcom yet?0 -
Cheers for that VinA JaY - don't call the number whatever you do!
If they have a block of SIM cards in sequential order that means they now have at least 56 SIM cards. All of which are probably plugged into a load of cheap as PAYG phones hooked up to a PC spurting out these texts.
Alternatively it could be coming from an SMS gateway, but they usually check ownership of numbers nowadays to help prevent fraud.
I think I'll have to call Vodafone back in the morning...0 -
stupidly i did call the number, but only for a few seconds! doh!0

Expect a call in a few days from a woman telling you that you owe them some money.0 -

Did you call the landline number?
If so, don't give anyone who calls your mobile your name, address or *any* personal details. This company appears to be known for calling people back and trying on tricks to get your details so they can send you bills in the post for calling them. They even appear to have pretended to be peoples phone networks asking to confirm their details as a way of finding out who you are.
If someone does call you asking for details, ask who they are and tell them you're going to look up their details in the Yellow Pages to call them back on the number you find there. If they're legit they shouldn't complain about it.0 -
