  • Hi. Firstly many congratulations:j I have twin boys who are now 13! As they were my first children I didn't have anything to compare them to and so had to just muddle through and once you get over the logistics of having them you will cope fine. They always played well together and even now spend time together. They have always said that it was good being a twin as there was always someone there for you. I didn't join Tamba as I met another Mum in hospital with twins (we're still friends now) and we were each others support group. I love having twins although having two teenagers in the house is more difficult than when they were babies!:rotfl:

  • Ask your midwife if there are any local twins groups - or ask your local NCT group to put you in contact with other mums of multiples (for this perhaps wait until nearer the birth)

    Hi there

Just to re-iterate what everyone else has said really. I have 5 year old twin girls and I wouldn't swap them for the world!!!

The first year is really hard (i breastfed for the first year and in hindsight I wish I had bottle fed as well to give me a break) and when you have never even held a baby before, suddenly you have 2 and it's a real shock!

The next couple of years get a bit easier, but the real rewards (for me anyway) are now my DD's are at school. I get a bit of a break as I haven't gone back to work, but I so look forward to having them home again. They are great fun and I love their company - they are like my best friends. My OH worked nights when they were babies and because of that, wasn't around much, so me and my DD's are like a little gang. But that is nothing compared to the bond between them!

We have just moved them both into their own rooms and they love their independance from each other just as much as they love being together.

Would I do it again if I could turn the clock back? Definately!!

Just relax and enjoy it and don't beat yourself up about things like housework etc. There is plenty of time to do that (I am just catching up with mine now they are at school!).

    Congratulations Icklebeans

I'm jealous too - I always wanted twins - less time being pregnant over all!

There's a few twin threads on mse too if you want to do a search. They are quite helpful about the sort of things you need.

go to the site you want,
highlight the address in your browser by left click then
    right click
    click on copy or cut.
This will put the address on to your clipboard.
go to here were we are now,
click right again and press paste.

it should work - it works for me anyway. i only learnt (or is that learned) how to do it last week.

Best advice I can offer (we have several sets of twins in our family) is to feed both of them together, i.e. feed one, then feed the other one (unless you have a helper) If you feed them when they want it, you will be constantly feeding, winding and changing, and forgetting which one has been fed and which one is still hungry, oh, and pop them both in the same cot to start with!

Ebay is great for twins things, especially if you do a search for local items. Often people will sell a whole shed load of stuff for very little because when you have twins, space becomes a big issue!

Oh, and congratulations!!! Just be prepared for complete strangers to stop you every time you go out and say 'oooh, twins - are they identical!!!' (ours are not)
:hello:  please play nicely children !
  • Thank you all for your positive comments and stories.

I have been on TAMBA and was wanting to know if it is worth the subscription fee? £36 for a year or £78. I don't have a problem with paying, just want to know if it is worth it? :money:

I think once they are here and a routine is settled it will be fine. I am worried about carrying the babies through to term as (from what I have heard) they seem to arrive premature. I am worried about the double birth (yep, probably easier overall than two separate pregnancies) and (god forbid) one dies. I am also worried about when hubby returns to work after his paternity and I am at home with two lovely, albeit screaming/ pooing, babies. How do you give them as equal attention as you would with one newborn?

I am not a negative person, just trying to be realistic once "oohh, twins, how wonderful" phase passes.
