On checking the account, broadband was activated in December 2007 - meaning that it's been activated within the last 12 months, therefore the deferred activation fee applies as I stated this morning:as the broadband was activated in December last year the £40 deferred activation charge stands I'm afraid.
Also, as the request to cancel was received before yesterday, the £20 cancellation charge does not apply, again as I stated:However you don't have to pay the £20 cancellation charge that's mentioned in the last ticket update, as the cancellation was requested before yesterday.
Hope that clears things up.Kind regards, Matt Taylor

You have the advantage over me by being able to quote confidential details from the OP's account.
So apart from MAAF wrongly saying he needs to pay £20, it seems the OP posted duff info too???
Does anyone ever get it right?
No wonder it says this on the top of the page:Anyone can post so always exercise caution when acting on info0 -
Although very happy with MAAF, after almost three years and out of contract I had to leave when mobile broadband through three enabled me to cut my monthly bill from £14 to £7.50. I was VERY unhappy to find out MAAF are to charge me £20 quitting fee. I do realise an e-mail informing me of this was sent by MAAF. I am usually very good with e-mails and have every other e-mail from MAAF on file. I did not say yes to my terms & conditions being changed and the thought of laying down while MAAF stick the financial boot in is not pleasant. MAAF tell me that the £20 is being passed on to their customers because BT is charging them, could this have something to do with BT owning MAAF?

Please have a look at the terms and conditions. Open both the current and old T&C and compare section 10.7 in both documents. For those people who have been with MAAF prior to sept 29th there is no mention of the £20 but in the current T & C £20 is mentioned. Logically no mention of £20 in your T & C how can they charge?0 -
Nothing to do with BT owning MAAF. They are just onpassing the charge levied to all ISPs when a cease order is requested. Many ISPs were able to abosorb this fee when it was around £6 but it has recently been increased to £18.50 (openreach were looking for £35).
£20 is not that bad, Eclipse now charge £25.“I look like Spiderman at a funeral”~ Karl Pilkington0 -
Hi,
I can confirm because i made the cancellation request a wee while ago (October) i'll be paying the £20 cease charge.
Lets hope Virgin Media Broadband is worth all the hassle!0 -

As long as you aren't in an over-subscribed area, cable broadband is excellent, you get the speed you pay for.
As the broadband is provided over the same co-ax as the TV, there's no need for a phone line and if you have ADSL no need for a MAC to port over.

Shame to see MAAF believing in a rip-off Britain. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
