Question about adding RAM

  • Thanks for all the replies!

There's absolutely no reason why I need more RAM, I just wondered if it was possible and after using the Crucial scan I became somewhat confused by both what I actually had and what I could possibly get. I think that despite what the scan says (and without whipping the back cover off) I probably have 2x1GB installed, and Vista is, as you say, running fine.

On a related note I have a 4GB flash drive which I've plugged in to use with Readyboost, and the performance is slightly improved (I think). But It's a bit of a pain having it sticking out of the side (or back) of the machine. I know I can't use the PCMCIA port for Readyboost, so does anyone know of any really small USB flash drives or microSD card readers that I can just plug in the back and forget about/hardly notice?

    Thanks again.

What do you mean by safe?

They're probably not the cheapest to buy from but in terms of legitimacy it's like asking if buying from Dyson or Microsoft or Intel is safe.

i decided to buy memory for my pc so found this site but couldnt find their address on website
Dell OptiPlex GX280 (Small Form-factor Models)

is there any cheapest website memory ??
  • When I did a Crucial scan of my main PC the result indicated there were two slots each with 1GB RAM and two further empty slots to which more RAM could be added, it still does! It's incorrect because there are only two slots - I've checked.
So maybe the scans are not infallible?

  • if you are looking for really small USb sticks with Readyboost, try the Sandisk cruzer range. The best place to get them is Amazon or Play.com
