Question about adding RAM

Hi all,
I have a Toshiba Equium L40 laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit and 2GB RAM. I'm thinking about adding another 1x1GB of RAM. However, when I do the Crucial scan it says I have the maximum amount installed, but goes on to say that both slots are empty and I could install another 2x1GB, and recommends several upgrade kits. I'm a little confused and would appreciate some advice!
Thanks

Well first answer is right, you've got the maximum amount installed."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

It might be worth investigating to see if your laptop will support 4gb, i.e. 2x2gb Dimms.
Most laptops will have a maximum of 2 slots, so if you have 2gb (2x1gb) already, you would have to get rid of those and swap with 2x2gb Dimms if compatible.0 -

Looks like the OP is at his limit then. Time to buy a new laptop0

Thanks for all the answers!
I'm still a bit confused about the crucial scan (I realise that I probably do have the maximum, but...);
Currently installed memory:
EMPTY
EMPTY
Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-4200,DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.*
*Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory.- Maximum Memory Capacity: 2048MB
- Currently Installed Memory: 0MB
- Available Memory Slots: 2
- Number of Banks: 2
- Dual Channel Support: No
- CPU Manufacturer: GenuineIntel

- CPU Speed: 1600 MHz

There's something not quite right with the scan, but as fermi points out, you're max'd out. Unsure if you'll be able to get faster RAM, but I'd say you'd be wasting your money for the minimal difference it would make.My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.0

Another trick with Vista is that some usb sticks have an option to boost the operating system of a vista operating system. If you google "vista Boost" you will find the details. or search for the same phrase on the front page of Amazon.co.uk. You can get a 2 or 4 gig usb stick for a around a tenner and it is a cheap and effective option0

Its well documented that Vista is RAM hungry so, it would be far cheaper to use a more efficient OS rather than buy a new laptop.
Good tip Mikegahan!0 -
The L40 only supports maximum 2GB (2x1gb Max) The crucial scanner is incorrect as you only have 2 slots and they both cannot be empty if you have 2GB showing on the system.
Is there any particular reason you want more ram? as Vista runs just fine on 2GB from my experience.0
