• If this article in today's Express is anything to go by, we may well be planting as much as we can next year..

http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/69180/Fruit-and-veg-prices-to-triple

We are stocking up on seeds for tomatoes, squashes, green beans, peas and spinach. MIL has apple trees so no shortage there.
I hope that what they are saying, may happen, won't be happening.

I can't stand the Express.

Spam? Just seems strange kurt osis has only done 2 posts and both mention your company, then a couple of hours after his post of saying you do price match, you make a post! With you saying "We did not receive any emails to support@seeddirect.co.uk pointing out that AlanRomans.com site had these cheaper prices quoted above." yet you found your way to this tread by yourself  Your post is very confussing with you saying your been told about the prices but you had'nt...

I hope not

"Since April 2008, UK businesses are prevented from "falsely representing oneself as a consumer", meaning that companies will no longer be able to post fake entries on blogs or message boards that imply they are made by customers.

The new law is part of the EU Directive on Unfair Business-to-Consumer Commercial Practices (2005/29/EC) aimed at obliging businesses not to mislead consumers. Companies who post fake statements risk face both civil proceedings and criminal prosecution. The law will be enforced by the OFT and Trading Standards Office.

The Directive seems to create a strict liability because it will not be necessary to prove that there has been any actual loss or damage, that the company was negligent or that the company intended to commit an unfair commercial practice."

Whether you hate the Express or not, they have been interviewing farmers about it on telly as well.
They said that it would result in a lot of crops that are currently being grown in the UK, not being able to be continued to be produced. Out of the farmers mouths.
So, sadly, it's not a load of rollocks, but thanks for your friendly response anyway.

Quoted from the end of your article
Emma Hockridge, policy officer at the Soil Association, said: “We are against pesticides.

“Organic farmers in this country have successfully shown that products can be grown without using such chemicals.”

What it is, is a typical Express, lets try to get everyone worried piece.
You can believe it as much as you want, but I categorically can assure you that "2.5kg bag of potatoes would rise from £1.98 to a crippling £5.94 by this time next year and a humble white loaf could cost £2.52" will not happen.

I see you chose to leave off the end of the sentence, as highlighted in bold above. Selective reading?????

So, the Express say treble and the NFU say double. It would still be far more expensive either way.

The whole reason for my post and saying that we are stocking up on seeds in the first place, also hoping to find some cheap ones still around.

Got grumpy instead.

I bought seeds from these guys last month through Ebay.

Their Ebay shop is: premier_seeds_direct

They were cheap and offer discounted postage. Don't know if they are the same people mentioned a page back on this thread. If so, they may discount their prices further in the next few days. The people mentioned on the previous page are going to do so.

if you are growing peas in baskets, beware of pigeons - they love snuggling in baskets at the best of times, and with their favourite food in as well.....

great plan though - i have tomatoes and salads in mine to keep them away from mice and slugs....
Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup
