  • Hi Guys

I emailed FSCS a few days ago regarding my claim for PPI against Firstplus through the personal loan express and have had no reply, how long should I leave this before contacting them again? I am sure they are probably inundated

Also, I have had no reply from GE Money regarding my request for account info for the loan I had with them in 2006 despite that letter being sent on 15th October, what is my next step with this?
Aug GC £63.23/£200, Total Savings £0
  • I wrote to BF using the 1st template letter and received a letter this morning stating they are not perpared to refund my ppi for the following reasons a) I signed the agreement and did not write to them to cancel it within the 30 day cancellation period, b) the financial ombudsman would not investigate the matter because the loan was taken out in oct 2004 and BF was not part of the FO Scheme until Jan 2005. c) the agreement has now been setteled and I had the benefit of the cover for the period of the agreement (cheek). The loan term was for 15yrs and I paid it off in 4 years so surley they should then refund the 11yrs differnce at least!
Am I being fobbed off? Is it worth me sending the second letter? HELP

Have you tried ringing the FSCS? I think emails are taking 1 - 2 weeks to be replied to.
GE Money have 40 days to reply to an SAR request.

  • Forgive me if I am in the wrong place - new to this. Just looking through the site and stumbled on this. I have realised I have been paying JD Williams what they call Peace of Mind plan. I never requested this and foolishly assumed it was necessary once your account reached a certain figure. Is this another name for PPI and have I a case for claiming a refund. Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask and if so would be grateful to be shown the correct direction. Thanks
  • Hi Pinknico
I was misold because I wasn't aware that the ppi was spread over the duration of the loan and I was not verbally told that it could be cancelled, also the loan was repaid 11 years early so surely I am due some sort of refund. What are the other ways of reclaiming that you suggest???

    Hello dennieb,

I take it that this was a single premium policy which was added on to the loan and then interest added and they did not make you aware of this nor that even when the policy was up you would still be paying for this?
Do not take their word for it that the FOS wont investigate this, maybe you can ring them (the FOS) and see where you stand.
Definately send the second letter: why would you cancel in 30 days when you didnt know that you had been stiched up. It makes no difference that the account is settled.
Did the policy cover the life of the loan or only 5 years?

You are in right place and if you did not request this then you should reclaim this.
Does this cover your payments against sickness, accident ,unemployment,
    Is this a store card?

  • Thanks for the reply pinknico. I don't know if this makes a difference but its a clothing catalogue.

This makes no difference. Just be sure its payment protection not goods protection.
Do you have any dates for when you took out the catalogue and when this was added?
