You make it sound so lovely.
If savvy can't make it, can I come instead?
Pink0 -
Pink yes of course! The more the merrier!! Anybody else coming? By the way, I see N.Ireland with "new" eyes and it is truly beautiful in places - I hadn't noticed before I left to go to England all those years ago.
I think in the name of courtesy that we should put a phrase book together for Savvy to use when she arrives. Eg, she may not know what Scallion means. Nor might she be aware that in N.Ireland a turnip is not a turnip as the English think it is something else. It might also be useful to explain why Tayto cheese and onion is so good (oh we could do the Tayto castle, it's quite near here!!).
What other words and phrases should go into our Norn Irn/English dictionary? Anybody got any suggestions??
Will finish my glass of wine now (it's a half pint glass ::)!!) and toddle off to bed. Good night!

Lets see, I was originally brought up in Portstewart so you would have to visit the Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede, Castlerock etc. You could of course go the Safari Park, yes I know it is closed now, but you would see about as much a we did when we went before it closed.
Then we moved to Bangor. So you would have to see the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum (Pink, I am surprised this wasn't your first stop).
My first job was in Kilkeel so I moved down that direction. The Mournes are lovely. Can go up to Spelga Dam, Silent Valley etc.... or just drive through the Mournes.
Now I am back in Bangor (but we have already visited North Down). You could of course head west (doesn't WIRM/IP/Swami live out that way somewhere) and see the lakes at Enniskillen and visit Marble Arch Caves. Not forgetting to visit the Planetarium in Armagh on the way across. While you are out that way you should head across the border into Donegal for a perusal of the west coast.
If you want to buy ripped-off, stolen and other illegally copied goods you could of course visit Knutts Corner market on the way back to the airport.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
Lived in this Island of yours for over 40 years ::)and after reading what must be the fastest growing thread yet 8)and realising how many of the places mentioned i've never been to,it makes me wonder why the hell we send thousands of pounds each year to go on holiday elsewhere :o
Oh yes i must mention my favourite place Glenariff (actually all the Glens for that matter) the forest walks and the views are to die for 8)
And I might add The best bargin in the world as it's all FREE!!!!!!!!0 -
Can't miss St Anne's cathedral and meet the Black Santa (is that what he's called Aronite?)
Yes that's what he's called!0 -
The Mournes really are gorgeous, you can't come over here and miss them! If you're into walking then brilliant, see you at the bottom.
We'd then take a little detour to Blackstaff Mountain and have a look at Carlingford Lough - one of the most breathtaking views in the emerald isle.Sounds wicked!!
Then once nicely stuffed back up to Newry to go to my house and meet my 3 kitties (all English by the way as I got them in England when I was living there). You can have your photo taken as I have a studio set up in my house...nothing rude of course... but I am into photography and have the lights and set up for a "make over" photo. It'll be a laugh! Anyone else want a piccie done? You can stay over if you wish and next day go south for Dublin (about an hour and a half) or north up to Belfast (about an hour). If you go to Belfast there is a tourist taxi ride that I want to do, if you'd like to come with me (am still a tourist myself as not that long back from a 15 year stay in London). It goes around the big wall murals, and into docklands (where Titanic was built) and where there are some oil rigs parked getting a refit by Harland & Wolff.Do you like horses? I ask because the Belfast Horse show will be on during your stay. It is only its second year, but all the big names will be here, and there's the Pony Club section which is a bit of a scream. So after all that, maybe a drink or two in The Crown Bar would be fun. It's a really old Victorian pub now owned by the National Trust. it has been in of lots of films as it is authentic for that era. A little aside....I strongly suspect it was in that film a few years ago starring Johnny Depp about Jack the Ripper. I was visiting Belfast when he was in town...and guess who was in the seat in front of me on the plane back home (to London) but the delectable Mr Depp himself!Corr don't tell Sheel you sat behind Johnny, she'd be WELL jealous!!
I tell you what FTS, I REALLY do wanna come over and spend some days with you now, you're a girl after me own heart!!Hey we're not related are we, LOL, I do have Irish ancestory yah know!
Thanks for these few days, they is WELL wicked!!!;D

Since you are going on the ferry to Newcastle, I would recommernd The Cuan at Strangford for lunch. It will possibly fit in with your schedule..Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts.
