Savvy - Good topic. In 3 hours you have just generated a "Very Hot Topic". But I think it was of little help to you. But I forget - This is virtual reality. Hope you enjoy the chat!
PS I think I have outlasted those bl**** women. Oh sorry!0 -
Oh I live right near the Mournes - place called Newry - recently became a city (just not very many people in this city!). The Mournes really are gorgeous, you can't come over here and miss them! If you're into walking then brilliant, see you at the bottom. Otherwise just jump into my car and I'll drive you around. We can have a look at the Silent Valley - a reservoir which has been made into a tourist attraction and is in the mountains. We could drive up and over the mountains then back home via the coast road. We'd then take a little detour to Blackstaff Mountain and have a look at Carlingford Lough - one of the most breathtaking views in the emerald isle. If you are feeling peckish we'll nip down into Carlingford town and go to the Purple Oyster restaurant (think that's what it's called...it might be pink and it might be some other sea creature...) for a big slap up meal. It is one of the best places to eat this side of Dublin. Then once nicely stuffed back up to Newry to go to my house and meet my 3 kitties (all English by the way as I got them in England when I was living there). You can have your photo taken as I have a studio set up in my house...nothing rude of course... but I am into photography and have the lights and set up for a "make over" photo. It'll be a laugh! Anyone else want a piccie done? You can stay over if you wish and next day go south for Dublin (about an hour and a half) or north up to Belfast (about an hour).
If you go to Belfast there is a tourist taxi ride that I want to do, if you'd like to come with me (am still a tourist myself as not that long back from a 15 year stay in London). It goes around the big wall murals, and into docklands (where Titanic was built) and where there are some oil rigs parked getting a refit by Harland & Wolff. Apparently the tour is very interesting and I'm just itching to do it, though the locals think I am mad! Can't miss St Anne's cathedral and meet the Black Santa (is that what he's called Aronite?). Once that's done I hear that Belfast City Hall has a tourist tour as well - that's a really beautiful building and it's really close to the Belfast Tourist drop in centre. They have tons and tons of info for visitors - all free - and sell heaps of fab postcards and lovely gifts as well.
Do you like horses? I ask because the Belfast Horse show will be on during your stay. It is only its second year, but all the big names will be here, and there's the Pony Club section which is a bit of a scream.
So after all that, maybe a drink or two in The Crown Bar would be fun. It's a really old Victorian pub now owned by the National Trust. it has been in of lots of films as it is authentic for that era. A little aside....I strongly suspect it was in that film a few years ago starring Johnny Depp about Jack the Ripper. I was visiting Belfast when he was in town...and guess who was in the seat in front of me on the plane back home (to London) but the delectable Mr Depp himself! Can't promise he'll be around though...
Phew I'm exhausted just thinking about all that! You've still got more than a week to fill but I have to get back to my job hunting...
Have a lovely time, bye!

You haven't outlasted me :)
Sorry savvy.......really hope that we haven't terrified you and made you think that N.I. is the last place you would ever choose to visit. Most of us are normal.......with the obvious exception of not-so-civil ;)
