5MP camera just £49.99 from Maplins

This is my first post, having joined today, so maybe I'm misunderstanding something. The cam found on the Maplins site by following the link in this thread is priced at £119.99 - even though today is 21 December! I visited a local Maplin and found that the only 5mp cam they sell is the same one at £119.99.
so, what's gone wrong? Is this one of those 'while stock lasts' situations, designed to draw people in just before the stock 'runs out'?
Or have I completely missed something? Grateful for any help!0 -
Tesco web site offering this

Maplin have taken the camera off their site now so guess its sold out. It doens'thave a vewfinder in any case and i found with a sony cybershot that you do need one as in low or bright light the screen doens't really work0

I got a 5 megapixel camera from tescos for £39:99 the other day. They also had 3 megapixel cameras for £29:00. Don't know what they are like but I got one for my 7 yr old daughters birthday so I hope they are ok0

Hi Guys...
I have just received an email about a cheap 5mp camera from Maplins....gutted as I have just bought one for my other half with similar spec for double the price!
PHEW! Nope it's not £50 its £119...now I’m happy because it’s not as good as the one I have just bought for same price!
Just a note to all you digi cam newbie’s...
Mega Pixel is NOT the 'B' all and 'End' all... they can also be missleading as interpolation can also lead to distortion. In my opinion any form of digital 'zoom' feature is USELESS as you can zoom in using PCsoftware and is sometimes much better quality!
Rather than pixels a greater consideration towards zoom should be made....yes MP is important but if you have a good zoom you don’t need as many MP, I have a 5.5mp camera and have had it for a couple of years and I never use it on 5.5mp as it takes up far too much memory. Even set to 3MP I can blow up any picture to A$ without any distortion whatsoever!
Please also note you may get better quality with a larger brand but as most of the components are produced by 'other companies' in the first place buying unknown brands is not always a bad thing:
Mine is a TEKXON TX5500Z, imported from the US but made in the Far East, it has Sony components and cost me around £100 a year or so ago! It has 16mb internal with SD expansion slot.
The quality and robustness is fantastic and has only let me down when I dropped it from 5 foot onto the open and extended lens. I have stripped it and fixed the lens with no parts! It lives again!
HAPPY XMAS!!

People like that just irritate me... it doesn't add anything to the thread, so there wasn't any point in posting. It's not like we're in a race or anything!
Ah well, back to the regular programming! :xmassign:

Thanks
I nearly got ther ein time to get my first camera! ah well next time. The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.0 -

does the tesco one have an optical zoom?
I noticed the maplins one on their site today does
Another thing that's important to me is the video resolution, format( I hate quicktime), and how long you can take a video for(max)0
