Please do tell me what people like me are like, and why we irrirtate you. My earlier post wasn't so much about criticisng the op of this thread. It was more a way of me trying to point out that the person who posted the same offer several hours earlier also deserved some thanks. :)

I'd like to say that I get put off posting offers I've seen because of replies like the one you gave earlier, which although you say was meant to be to give the first poster their due, it did look kinda like you were just telling Lexis200 he shouldn't have bothered trying. Surely the whole point of this website is to offer help and try and save people a bit of money, so if a deal is duplicated it's not a huge problem. Plus, I don't know about other people but I don't have time to search through hundreds of posts so I find it quite handy if something is up on different boards.

Perhaps thanking the person who you think deserves it rather than putting down the other person for trying to help would have been more productive?

Anyway, just my opinion, feel free to slam me :rudolf:

Realistically you are better with a lower megapixel camera from a reputable digital camera brand ( sony, kodak, olympus, fuji, pentax , casio , nikon canon etc).
The picture quality will be much better ( due to better lens, sensor and programmed settings).

Unfortunately digital cameras from cheap brands almost always perform badly compared to the reputable brands ( the only real exception being the Premier DC3A30 10x optical zoom model that is identical to a Toshiba and also rebadged as many other brands).
Look for cheap branded models within your budget:

Like this kodak 3.3mp model for £51

    :)
  • My local Tesco has the same make 5mp camera in silver for 39.99 as well as the pink ones !
    To infinity and beyond!
  • I see the E-Bay & Tesco one's here are the 5080 model and the Maplin one is the 5085, but not sure what the difference is?

See the 5080 has 1.7" LCD and the 5085 a 1.5" one
  • just spotted a 5 million pixel camera for sale in currys only £35
  • SORRY new to this the spec is 4x didgital zoom, Pictbridge enabled, 1.5 lcd screen, motion picture recording, model PREMIER DC5085. (saw it advertised in daily mirror)
  • Just a quick update, after I found these, I saw the one in Tescos as mentioned by mike_paterson above. It was up for £49.99 at the time, but I went back a day later and they were £39.99, so I bought one! Great Christmas present for one of my kids.

The Premier DS-5080 isn't bad for a first camera but definitely not even close to a "real" digital camera (I have an EOS 10D and a Fuji F10).

    Good points are

    Cheap!
    Looks quite stylish
5 megapixels (but can go to 7MP interpolated if you really want)
Can be used as a webcam
    takes video footage (no sound)
Li-ION battery seems to last ages
simple to use (but the menu is a bit quirky)
    Fixed focus
    PictBridge enabled
16Mb storage built in (14 Mb useable)

    Bad points are

VERY slow updating the LCD display
quite a long delay after clicking to actually take the picture
    No viewfinder (LCD display only)
mediocre photos (shows pixelation and grain when viewed full size)
    Video is rubbish
build isn't great (the battery cover wobbles a bit)
Digital zoom is next to useless
Best suited to 8x10 photos maximum if you're printing them out. Larger ones look pixelated

There's plenty more points for both lists, but those were the main ones I could think of.

The bottom line is, it's good value at £40, but just remember you pay for what you get! If you can afford a bit more, then follow simes post above, and look for a lower megapixel camera from a reputable maker. On the other hand, if it's for your kids, this will do just fine, and you won't worry as much when they drop it on the floor for the 10th time that day! :xmassmile

If anyone wants a test photo, feel free to PM me with your email address and I'll send you one out (just to warn you, it's 2.9Mb in a zipfile)
