5MP camera just £49.99 from Maplins

Just found this on Maplins... under £50 for a 5megapixel camera. Looks like a great present for a beginner to photography. Offer ends 24th December when it looks like the price will go up to £89.99.

From the website...

5 Megapixel CCD digital camera
1.5 colour LCD screen
Stylish black design
16MB internal memory
SD memory card compatible up to 512MB
4X digital zoom
Auto flash sensor with red eye reduction
Easy to use photo editing software
Video recordable
Kit includes USB cable, 2 x AA batteries, user manual, camera pouch, strap and CD-ROM

Link is here

http://www.maplin.co.uk/NextPrev.aspx?ModuleNo=48727&worldid=&doy=14m12&Direction=prev&Level2No=546

They currently have just under 1000 in stock, it will be interesting to see whether MSE'rs can make a significant dent in the stock level!

Cheers

Dave

Update Note 21 Dec

Unfortunately the offer has now expired but have a look at the rest of the thread for some other bargains.

Official insert:

These are available online and in store. However, if you're planning to make a special trip do double check first on the maplin site that your nearest store has enough stock and, even better, ring to reserve one. Scroll down the page to use Maplin's stock checker. Enter your postcode and it'll tell you how many your nearest stores have in stock. But get in there quick - offer ends 24 December!

Even better some Tesco are apparently stocking it for £39.99 :)

Yes, but if you look at the section where you put itmes into your basket, it says there's 2 of those (called B Grade 5MP Dig Cam), the rest (the top line called 5MP Digital Camera) are new stock.

  • Your point being?

I searched the site (and didn't find anything) before posting this in a different board. The board guide saw fit to move it to this board, and only then did I see the other post.

Sorry for trying to help find a bargain... maybe I just won't bother any more

  • It's a great offer and deserves to be on the Board. I have posted and crossed wires before - don't let the grouches stop you. The ones that annoy me are those that post wants without checking first for Great Hunts etc.... I find all the advice helpful. And you can have a thanks for your effort

ps I don't mean to sound patronising
  • Thanks Lexis, this is just what I was looking for actually :j

  • Thanks Eileenfromplaistow, :)

People like that just irritate me... it doesn't add anything to the thread, so there wasn't any point in posting. It's not like we're in a race or anything!

Ah well, back to the regular programming! :xmassign:

Please do tell me what people like me are like, and why we irrirtate you. My earlier post wasn't so much about criticisng the op of this thread. It was more a way of me trying to point out that the person who posted the same offer several hours earlier also deserved some thanks. :)

Some time ago, when one of the computer outlets was closing, Time or Tiny, can never remember which, I bought a 2.1 megapixel Jenoptik camera for the then bargain price of £70. Earned hoots of derision from all my workmates, but I've used it lots of times and apart from having no optical zoom, it's been brilliant. Very clear picture, in all sorts of conditions. Great little toy. One of its features is having just an ordinary viewfinder, rather than a little screen thingy, which again earned ribald comments, but at least I have a good battery life.
My point? Don't always rule out the cheap and cheerful. Depends what you want, of course, but if your requirements are fairly modest, or you are a relative beginner, such a camera could be just the job.
