dial-a-phone unlocked phones?

Vodafone have told me previously that (unlike other networks) they will unlock a phone free at the end of a contract. I have also read recently a debate about whether Vodafone contract phones actually come unlocked. Why don't you contact the dealer (and Vodafone) and check - that way you may seef what's inside without opening it.

It's my understanding that Vodafone phones are more often than not, unlocked. (I hesitate to use the word always.) Although they still carry the branding and software linked to Vodafone, i.e. not a truely unbranded & unlocked phone you might get direct from the manufacturer.

I'm currently using a Vodafone Smartphone and have successfully used Orange and O2 SIMs without trouble.

Sorry to bring up an old thread.

Can anyone confirm that the pay as you go handsets are unlocked when bought from dial a phone? I was just having a quick looking at their sale section and all of them are on orange.

(Has anyone got an Orange pay as you go from dial a phone and received it unlocked/unbranded?)
