Found a kitten

Sorry, but they'd be climbing the walls if we hadn't let them out before now. We did it gradually, making sure they knew where home was. And they're not chipped, because they're getting that done when they are neutered. That seems to be common so afaik it's unlikely that a 4 month old kitten would be chipped.
If a kitten is in distress or about to throw itself in traffic, sure, it needs rescuing, but just because a cat's out at that age, it doesn't mean it's been abandoned or is lost.
I'm sure I'll get shot down now!
My kitten was neutured at 16 weeks old and Microchipped so yes it's possible a 4 month old kitten could be chipped. Whether or not a kitten would be climbing the walls that is no excuse to let them out unneutured. If they were at that stage then you get them neutured as soon as possible or you will have to put up with their behaviour. 4 months old is a bit young to be outside on it's own but thats the owners choice and I too would have picked him/her up if I were to see out at that age.
If my new kitten were to get out at 4 months old i'd be grateful to whoever took him/her in.0 -
I was very surprised at my vet, I took my kitten for her second jabs on Friday gone - she's now around 12 weeks old.
The vet said that now she's been jabbed, she can go out...!!!
I told her in no uncertain terms that the idea of that is highly irresponsible because a) there's no way she's going out until she's neutered, b) there's no way she's going out until she's chipped and c) she's tiny. 12 weeks? You have to be kidding!0 -

In all fairness my boy (see pic) never wore a collar.
But he was microchipped, but not till he was netured at about a year (had him chipped while he was asleep having his snip).0 -
most kittens aren't sexually mature at 4 months, so letting them out at that age poses no risk in that particular respect. my kitty went out at 4 months with a collar & tag on, and a chip, and I had no end of people phoning me up saying he was lost.. yet they were just a couple of doors up from me and had picked him up and taken him inside because he was small...!? he had a collar on with his address!!
he was fine - i have his mum too (long story- shes spayed now & kitty is neutered!) and she looked out for him when he first went out, and would call him back if he tried to go too far, or if he went out of the garden etc. i checked he was ok every couple of hours, and always got him in at night. i live in a quiet area - i was not irresponsible!
i can understand why the op picked this kitty up, but i think in most circumstances the kitten wouldn't be lost. in this case, since no one has been looking for him, then it turned out to be the right decision, but i have seen many cats get taken into rescues/vets by well meaning people, and when scanned, they have an owner nearby... makes you wonder how many unchipped kitties have been found before they were lost and gotten taken to a rescue etc.....I can't think of anything interesting to write here.........0
