Found a kitten

Every few days there is someone posting They have found a cat.
I have no problem with that as long as it is not found before it is lost.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
The only thing that made me take this cat in in the first place is the fact it was a kitten and a young one at that, the vet nurse said it still had its milk teeth. Kittens that small are in all sorts of danger, not only from cars but from predators and getting into fights with bigger cats amongst other things.
You could tell it did have a collar at some point but did not have one when I found it. How do the OP know that somneone had not kicked it out or it could have come from miles away. Was I just meant to leave it cold and hungry? I have also been doing some research and the general recommendation is not to let a cat out until it is at least six months old and neutered. So its not just my opinion thank you very much.
I haven't seen any posters or anything saying someone has lost a cat and certainly no one has rung me even though I have left my number in loads of places. And told anyone I saw if anyone came looking for a kitten to give me a call, so I have tried really hard. Do you not think if someone cared for this kitten they would have been looking for it by now?
Maybe I should have left it and then explained to my daughter why it was squashed on the road?
The vet I went to is the only vet where I live so if someone was going to call the local vet thats the only one they could call anyway.
And I am not playing the martyr, I am concerned for its welfare is all.0 -
you did what you thought was right at the time thats all we can do.
we had a stray cat around here that we quickly realised had been abandoned when a tenant a couple of doors up got evicted so afyter a few weeks of getting it to trust us we then took it in, it did take a while to get used to our other cat who wwe had just got from a rescue centre but now they play and sleep together (and hunt alot) , we also get the new neighbours kitten popping in and out and originally we thought it was lost as it was sooo young im talking around 10 /12 weeks old so if it popped in when we was in bed we locked the catflap so it was safe over night as there is lots of foxes and things round here (we back onto a golf course and woods) but let it back out in the morning and realised eventually where it was coming from so now we dont feed it but i did have a word with the neighbour as it is very young and had fleas and advised her on neutering but dont think she understood most of it anywaynow proud mum to 3 handsome boys :j latest one born 10/10/11:j0 -
Well done for taking the kitten in, our kitten (aged 7 months) disappeared a couple of weeks ago, unfortunately he was killed by a car as he wandered further than we expected, but if that had not been the outcome we would have searched high and low and been very grateful if someone had been taking care of him in the meantime. Far better to care too much than too little!0

I would have done exactly the same thing. A kitten of that age should not be wondering around near a road. Well done OP for taking the initiative & thinking of the kitten's wellbeing. I wouldn't take any notice of the posters giving you a hard time - they seem to not be capable of understanding the danger the kitten was in - you probably saved it's life!nothing to see here, move along...0

Here here me too, I hope someone like you is around if my little cat ever goes missing, rather than than he be hurt! Why do these threads on here always end in the berating of someone, usually quite genuine, its beyond me???Remember ....its not a bargain unless you need it0 -
Mine are 6 months old now and due to be neutered shortly.
Sorry, but they'd be climbing the walls if we hadn't let them out before now. We did it gradually, making sure they knew where home was. And they're not chipped, because they're getting that done when they are neutered. That seems to be common so afaik it's unlikely that a 4 month old kitten would be chipped.
If a kitten is in distress or about to throw itself in traffic, sure, it needs rescuing, but just because a cat's out at that age, it doesn't mean it's been abandoned or is lost.

Yes, you will get shot down. Letting un-neutered cats out is really really irresponsible. I am not going to go on a rant because frankly, I can't be bothered. But I'm sure the rescue which ends up with the litters of kittens you can't cope with will be absolutely made up with you
Or, if it's boys you have then I'm sure the hundreds of kittens which will be produced from feral or un-neutered females will have the rescues doing backflips. Yay you!
Climbing the walls? What a crap excuse for being irresponsible.0 -
Why can I never find a kitten :rotfl: will keep tryingJust because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0

Where do you live? No one has come forward to claim him yet so there might be one going.....Other then that there were loads of notices offering kittens at the vets.
Though someone did call about the notice I had posted, far as I know they weren't his owner....I told them to call the vets and gave them the number. I don't know if it was the right thing to do as his real owners could still be out there somewhere but I haven't seen any posters or anyone looking for a kitten as yet and I told anyone I could see where they could find me if anyone did come looking.
I still stand by my view that at four months it was too young to be out, especially unnetured. Cats can breed from the age of four months and although mine were desperate to get out I did not let them until they had been done. To be honest it took them a while after they were let out to figure out how to get out of my walled garden!
I really do hope that someone does come forward for him, I did not find out until fairly recently that the RSPCA put healthy animals down and thats where he is going if no one does claim him.......but on the other hand he is a kitten so I know he stands a good chance of getting rehomed before it comes to that.
Thanks for all your support, I was so unsure I had done the right thing but like I said before it was because he was so young I took him in, with two cats of my own I am not in the habit of stealing other peoples cats!0
