Yes the HDUK thing is a bit hit and miss - with games and dvd's people vote cold because they think it is a rubbish game, even if it's half the price of anywhere else. We need a system that flags up mega bargains without encouraging some of the pettiness you get by voting hot or cold - people tend to take how you vote a bit personally. I can't think of any other formats that work well though.0

Of course it'll be better than the system over there because of the community here. I love the idea behind HUKD and I visit regularly. I've had a few bargains from there, but I rarely even read the comments now. I appreciate the job the bargain finders do, but I just list the stuff by date added and browse through it and see if anything catches my eye. Its temperature most of the time bears no relation to its value as a bargain or not.
I think simply being able to vote something hot, or not vote at all, would be the best way to do it. People will either ignore it, or it'll get popular. Nobody can sabotage people's picks. Good stuff will get rated better because it deserves it. Bad deals will fall by the wayside.
By the sounds of it, this is what's planned, no thumbs-down button. Sounds like a great idea to me.They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
sounds like a great idea to me too. i think it is good for the posters too - it is funny how some posts will have a huge number of people taking advantage of a great post but do not have much to say beyond thanks so the post gets a bit lost.
it is pretty hard not to be v boring and just post "thanks OP, great post!" so a lot of the time i'll just hit the thanks button, but sometimes it would be good to have a way of letting other members know it was a good post.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Hi
There's no attempt to copy any other site here.
To start the votes will only be viewable by the 100 users. The aim is to give regular users the ability to flag up bargains to the editorial team. (i've edited my first post as i see that could've been ambiguos)
The reason they can see the votes is as it can help them flag up whats been done and what is of interest.
This is how we've worked for 5 years, and now we're building a tool to enable volunteers to help and suggest things.
Our stance, as you will see in the various Daily Deals Note is to journalistically check out and legitimacy check any deal, so people can be assured it is real, and safe to do.
This is another step towards that, I have already one full time member of the team doing the Deals notes, and the new technique, is to help a new team member we're recruiting. All of which I hope will mean we can help people save even more money.
However frankly voting on posts doesn't really belong to any website or is copyable - no more than the thanks button on this site does.
Hope that clears it up.

I don't understand what we are meant to do if we sign up???
My understanding is if you are selected, when you visit the forums you will see an additional button titled 'I rate it'.
When you spot a significantly good / moneysaving deal, you click the 'I rate it' button. There is no limit to the number of posts you can rate.
This will then send a trigger to the editoral team who will consider its inclusion in to the weekly email and/or deals section.
You will hopefully be able to see what posts other volunteers have voted for in the different sections as well.
Hopefully that helps.
Details on 'who can do it?', can be found on Martins 1st post.0 -
