my boiler broke and my partner had a go at fixing it but it still didn't work. i rang npower to use their fixed price deal. they came out and because my partner hadn't put the cover back on the boiler they wouldn't touch it as someone else had worked on it - and still charged me!
i got insured with direct line, waited for 14 days then called them out. never mentioned it was already broken and put the cover back on so they didn't know we had already had a go at it.

most companies make you wait 14 days before claiming.

well, Brit Gas are coming around tomorrow at midday to fix it (all parts included etc) and if I had to wait 14 days in this weather then I would have a go at fixing it myself

British Gas, £28 a month for boiler and radiator cover as found on http://www.britishgas.co.uk/products-and-services/maintenance-and-repair/central-heating-repairs.html

you can pay a one off lump sum which is even cheaper but in this weather I am happy to insure my warmth
