AAAaaaaaaarrrgghhh!!!! I've totally lost the plot this month, havent a clue what my running total is up to, but i reckon i'm over budget.
Was my DS's 2nd birthday on wed so had a 'little' party for him - ended up spending £30ish quid on food, cake, card, wrapping paper etc....None of which was in my budget, i obviously was not as prepared as i first thought:rolleyes:.
Still have to get a few bits in too1 I've set myself a £15 limit so see us through to the end of the month. I'm busy trying to plan meals and prepare next months shop.

  • Hello,

I went shopping and ended blowing my budget:eek:. One of the major reasons is that I bought formula milk (first in 8 1/2 months:D ) for DD2 and it is soooooo expensive. Even though I feel bad for going over as I bought some things (Lamb and salmon) that had been reduced and ended up giving them to my mum. Still have a few days left to go but starting to feel a little disheartened. Don't think I have enough willpower to do this:cry:.

  • Not doing too well as have one more weekly shop to get next Friday and only have £16.16 to do it with (will also get a veg box then which is accounted for).
Have had DD's birthday party this month which cost about £40 in food and stuff, so done well to stick to the budget so far - but will definatly have to be a bread and milk shop only next week to hit the target.

Well, a bad day today, spent £4.60 on our lunches (too hungry to think) :o and a deposit of £40 on curtains for my daughters bedroom (although to be honest I'm sure that this must be outside the GC) but at least I paid cash - wiped out my little emergency cash supply:p and resisted spending £400 on the kitchen:eek:, I don't know what I was thinking, thank goodness I saw sense.

Very tempted by a take away tonight, but resisted and had fabby veg lasagne from the freezer, courtesy of DH.:D

just wanted to say to those of you disheartened by your progress on the GC - if you think back, you'll find you're probably spending much less than you were pre-GC so you are making progress. ;)

I still haven't managed a big shop this month as I've been unwell but I'm hoping to do a stock up in the next few days. I may well go over budget as I want to finish off most christmas food shopping and also need to stock up on meat and a few more store cupboard suppplies - I've used a lot of dried milk and pasta this past month and also I'm down to my last tin of tuna
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

I think what rosieben has said is important - please don't get disheartened. I've lost count this month but know it's going to be under budget. BUT...some other months went over budget. I know though, that it is still less than it was a couple of years back when I had no menu plan and no shopping list! The trick is to keep on keeping on.
Good luck all - we're nearly there!

  • *big sigh* I have a feeling I've blown my budget this month. Next time, I'll have to set it a bit higher so I can at least make my budget. I spent £5 on chicken breasts from the market, so at least I won't have to buy these for a while, as well as 48p on a garlic bread to have with the lasagne we had last night. So that leaves me £34.86 for another week's shopping just to make my budget.

    It's not looking likely...

  • hi everybody,
have been reading posts avidly and although I have been keeping an account of my spending for last six months have not so far had the confidence to set target yet. maybe next month. icon12.gif
icon5.gifsorry to show my ignorance but what is Mr. T. ?
is it a discount warehouse? or a supermarket?
don't think I have seen any in my neck of the woods
It takes a long time to eat an elephant and I'm doing it a bite at a time!!!
  • Mr T is a supermarket, you know the one where every little helps?
  • I know Ocado is expensive compared to Tesco etc but I have a done a few shops there recently using voucher codes (£15 off £75 or £90 spend) and they now price match alot of Tesco prices, so it doesnt really work out dearer than Tesco. I did an order this week and I actually saved with multibuys, discounts and a voucher £37.00. So my shop totalled £81, but thats enough for at least 2-3 weeks and I bought 5 of their chickens at £2.15 each (not FR though but RSPCA approved-these will do a roast, curry bulked out and soup), leg of lamb (3 meals), minced lamb (6 meals), chicken pieces (3 meals in stews), fish in crumbs (2 meals)...also got FR eggs and loads of store cupboard items and a couple of luxury bits to put away for Xmas.

I am using up what we have in ATM in my mealplans so havent hardly spent anything so far this month....this is it so far I think.
