lapat wrote:if it was me i would go for the texecom premer but there a little advanced to install
my next choice would be a texecom veritas8 or excel as the excel comes with led keypad which are £40+ on there own.text and speech dialer i feel are a must as i also have smoke alarms rigged to my alarm but thats personal option especially if you have good/nosy neighbours
texecom are really simple to wire up and all cable is colour coded so if you can read and follow instructions have a go yourself.plus texecom have a dedicated telephone support for diy installs
i buy all mine from https://www.brewtime.co.uk they are primary trade but do supply to the public with no problems and they are usually delivered within 48hrs
they have got a kit on for under £120 including vat here http://www.brewtime.co.uk/product-detail.asp?d=577 and you could add extras to this if required i.e more pir's door contacts
and they have an upgraded version with speech dialer for around £240 with lcd keypad which is the excel model which does include event log
please see next post for what i usually fit for a 4 bed house

This looks like good kit. Don't think I would get away with ripping it out and installing another just for the fun of it though - mores the pity
The wife has signed off the paperwork for me to replace all the battery smoke alarms with mains ones though, so I will have some fun.0 -
---lee--- wrote:All good points. I have toyed with the idea of putting a door from the house into the garage as it's alongside but I think the security and fire risks outweigh the small benefits in my case - not to mention the fact that it would put me within shouting distance of she who must be obeyed when in the garage (and the kids).
I might put a door in the back of it though to save having to go out of the front of the house and through the big garage door. I would have to tidy it up first though
LOL
Thing is, if a burglar got into our garage he may not try to get into the house and we would never get rid of him. Fridge in there full of beer so he'd have a whale of a time. Could dry his clothes in the dryer, watch TV, there's also a kettle in there somewhere so he could even have a brew!
As you can tell, we don't keep our car in the garage !There's no woman sicker than the woman who is sick on her day off !0 -
Anyone any suggestions where I should go for a burglar alarm. I want one that is fairly reliable, know a few people whose alarms constantly go off for no apparent reason. Who would anyone recommend and what sort of price should I expect to poay for a standard kit?0

Your thread title is on two lines - I didn't see "alarm" at first glance! I thought you were requesting the services of a burglar! :rotfl:
Sorry I can't help.0 -
used this local firm (N'Ards), excellent service and very reasonably priced.

In my old house I had the BT Home Monitoring system. Its wireless and upgradeable - i.e. add in extras when you fancy it. Remote key fobs as well for turning on and off, found it quite useful, generally pet friendly as well unless you have a huge dog. You also have the monitoring side at £5 a month where if the alarm goes off it will email/phone/text 3 people in the order that you store on its website. In 3 years I think it only went off once that I couldn't explainNorn Iron Club Member #64

I would advise an approved installer which should improve your insurance costs

Herewith a very good budget option albeit DIY
B&Q on the Boucher Rd. Belfast are selling a DIY kit by YALE for only £50.
Its got 4 sensors, control keypad and outside large tamperproof alarm box.
System is wireless and can be installed by anybody with DIY knowledge in about an hour.
System's battery life is 2-3 years.
I've installed this system and it works great
This system was recently on sale for nearer £150-£2000 -
I have one from PIPS security in Glengormley...Have had it 5 years and no faults! Would recommend!:-)0
