  • Hi,

Hope everyone is well and welcome newbies/returners. So far today I've done shoping, done errands, washed up, done laundry and emptied bins. My aim for the rest of the evening is to do some tidying up

DeniseNZ - hugs but repeat after me "I am not a useless parent". You've got the kids this far in their lives, if they flunk their exams, that's THEIR fault, not yours! I wouldn't pull the TV and computer completely, but maybe ration them? Can you be around during study leave week? Help them create a study timetable to do during the day so they can then compute/TV in the evening?

Greenbee - the stuff I have only ever gets one asker - but I freecycle oddities! See who can collect first but have someone in reserve...

I'm between two areas, so I'm thinking of posting on another group as well, in order to speed the process up. If I have another session in the garage tomorrow there'll be rather a lot waiting to go! Anything that doesn't will be heading to the tip next Friday.

oh I know - I have a DVD player 'spare' the type you can get for under £30 now (ours cost over £200 and doesn't even record) I was going to offer it to a women's refuge either for use there or when they are supporting someone in a new place...but I don't know how. They keep theirn locations secret, for obvious reasons...I figure one of you two could help. I don't want to freecycle it because I don't want it to end up on a car boot I would rather give it someone in need/crisis IYSWIM

DeniseNZ huge hugs hun and you are a great parent - if you wasn't you wouldn't care what the report said. You are so not alone. I have this problem with my eldest and so do heaps of my friends. TV/computers have a lot to answer for but if I ban them it doesn't seem to increase the work just the tension. If you find the answer, write a book - it will be a best seller.

Oooh I've just discovered there's a Miss Marple on ITV3 - that's me sorted for the next couple of hours but as I have the laptop set up in the living room anyway, I can pop in and out

Greenbee I usually wait at last 24 hours (those who don't have constant access/use daily digest) if I notice someone who always offers a lot as long as they are polite and it looks like they will use it, that's who usually gets it. You can search for the persons ID to see if they're an offerer or a wanter.

Denise ((big hug)) Dusty's right! If you weren't a good parent you wouldn't care. Depends how bad it is, but personally I'd pull the plug on the gaming with the schools support asking for WEEKLY updates to see if things are improving, that they can earn back time on it if things improve, but if it drops off, it's removed again. Sharp shock of the removal I think would help (some will say they don't think so) the first week will be protest, that's when you can also remove the TV if they turn horrible, usually by the second week they're starting to play ball.
One day I might be more organised...........

Hugs, I would get the boys to 'earn' the right to use the game machine or whatever, on production of class grades.

How do those of you who freecycle decide who gets the stuff if you have multiple offers? And how long do you leave it before you decide? Mine went up at 3.30 - I've had 4 offers for one item and one for another. I was thinking of leaving it until tomorrow morning, but I do need as much as possible collected tomorrow!

greenbee Here's my take on the freecycle question. Mind you, Lil_me's answered it really well!

I tend to give it a fair chunk of time too, say 24hrs. But usually someone will stand out because of how they're replied. No manners drives me bonkers! An "i'll have it" will usually get deleted by me! I know I'm giving stuff away, and it helps me having someone take it, but it's still free for that person. Politeness goes a long way for me!
