Got new BT line only to find out line is too long!

It takes a set number of days for the database to update so you are probably seeing old info as others have stated.
It's funny because I specifically asked the Mrs to ask the BT engineer when he was there if we should wait a particular length of time before trying to order broadband and he said it didn't matter. Perhaps I'd have avoided all this annoyance had he said otherwise!0 -
It can easily be too long; it all depends on the distance from the exchange. I knew it was a long way as I live in a relatively rural area, but was not expecting the likes of O2 and BT's checker telling me it's too far and I'd be lucky to get 512kbps, that's all.0

Just as an update to this, I had broadband enabled yesterday via O2's Access package (they're not unbundled at my exchange) and I'm syncing at ~600kbps. This is the same as my neighbours are receiving through BT.
It's a bit slow for downloading, but browsing is fine and the main point is that IT WORKS.
So BT's checker was indeed wrong.
Thanks for all the help.0 -
Glad you can at least get something, not exactly the bees knees but much better than dial up speed!0

I just found this topic and it was useful to check the address. I want to put a landline and I don't want to pay £130 and than find out that i can't have broadband. I want to put a be or 02 brodband up to 20MB... do I have any chance. i don't understant nothing from the result (they say up to 2, and the next line says 6 or greater)
And question for the OP, how did you get the £29 connection charge, I phoned them and they told me that it's only available if you transfer from another provider (eg Virgin) and not for a new line. They want to charge me £!29 even though there is a landline already in the house (one of my housemate's, it's a shared house)
Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial check on your address indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a line rate up to 2Mbps.
Our check also indicates that your line currently supports a potential ADSL Max broadband line rate of 6Mbps or greater. The actual stable ADSL line rate supportable will be determined during the first 10 days of use. This rate may change over time, to ensure line stability is maintained.0 -
I dont thinkanyone anywhere is able to get 20mb on regular adsl, most places even cities get upto about 8, some do get more but its not very common.
To the OP, if it continues to say that you cannot get broadband, you could ask to have your telephone number changed. It should clear up any isues.0 -

You should insist on them telling you exactly where in the notice (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=878915) it says you have to be coming from Virgin. I didn't have to, they just gave me it when I asked.
I've no idea on your speed, sorry, but what I do know is that to get 20MB+ you have to live virtually on top of the exchange. From the checker it sounds like you'll get something good (the Max is the bit you're interested in), but as I've found out, it means nothing in reality as it can be completely incorrect.0
