Right, this is to revive the old OS meet up thread, inviting OSers to socialise in person to share ideas, vouchers, bits and pieces and have fun together. At this stage there has been some vague discussion about meeting up later in the year in the IKEA store in Croydon but nothing has been finalised.

If you are a South of England OSer (or an adventurous one from anywhere else, for that matter. All are welcome!) please post here o let me know if you are interested in meeting in early October in the IKEA cafe in Croydon. Weekday or weekend? Morning (and make a full day outing with cheap lunch at the canteen) or afternoon for tea and cake?

For me daytime weekday would work better, and IKEA is madness at weekends.

I shall wait to hear from a few of you re. date and time preference then will just update the first post with details of meet up.

Just a friendly disclaimer: in the past I have put a lot of energy in arranging meet ups, it has been great and I have made lifelong (I hope) friends, but there has also been an element of worry and concern about pleasing everybody, making sure that people find us, and I found it quite hard going in the end, especially as at one point I felt exhausted in the effort. This time I am just going to be a catalyst, not an organiser, I shall post venue place and time, then I shall go there, regardless of whether anyone comes or not. I shall sit wherever it has been arranged, wearing my safety pin for recognition, then if people don't turn up after a while I shall do my own thing. I hope this does not sound harsh or unfriendly, it is just to protect my feelings. Other OSer friends who have attended will know what I mean!

The meets have been a lot of fun for the most part, please consider coming along even if you haven't done before, it feels like a true homecoming and before you know, yesterday's strangers become today's friends and you will be happily chatting about crochet, couponing, penny pinching, prepping etc, and NOT BE MADE TO FEEL LIKE A WEIRDO! It is a wonderful feeling.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • Oh joy! A chance to meet up again with my favourite bunch of like minded people - The old safety pin has been gathering dust on the mantlepiece for too long and I would love to have a meet up in October at Ikea in Croydon!

There's nothing like chatting to an Old Styler to lift the spirits and make you realise it's all worthwhile.

I'm flexible on the dates but I do agree that the weekends at Ikea are mad, to say the least, so any day but Wednesday would be great - any other takers?

Lovely to hear from you again Caterina please, please just "post venue place and time" then go there and sit back and enjoy yourself
May you fill up the great clutterbucket of life and may all of your leaks be in cheese sauce:D
Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without:cool:

WOW Purpleclutterbuck it has been a long time indeed! Great to see you online again, hope you are keeping well.

Keep your eyes on this thread and after a few people have had the chance to see it I shall put the day and time and indeed sit back and relax!

Yes bring as much as you can carry :rotfl: :D
  • Don't forget your IKEA family cards for free coffee weekdays - but watch out, drink more than 3 refills and some of us will be bouncing off the walls

I can't miss the chance of a meetup on my home turf :D
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

If I still lived in South Norwood, I'd have come, but it's a bit too far to travel from Wales!
