Please don't touch new builds as alared said they are cheap and nasty and certainly not worth the money.....or the pain you will go through trying to get stuffed fixed

Also it will be like living in an cardboard box......when you go veiw get your fella to go stand up stairs and make a noise and you'll be able to hear it like he's next to you.........cheap and nasty at a HIGH price

    Stay well clear

I don`t think it matters which builder you buy from because they ALL use sub contractors to do the work.
Definition of a subbie (bang it up as quick as you can, take the money and run)

The above is from my original post (#2).

It doesn`t matter which builder you name there will always be people that have had problems with them.
Also,as has been pointed out,"second hand" homes do not come trouble free either.
You probably get to view a "second hand" home a couple of times but the hidden faults don`t come to light until you actually move in.
  • Yes i am sure there are good new builds out there, but that does depend on the quality of the contractors they have building there homes.
As regarding professional snagging..DO IT....best money i have spent , currently in my latest new build buy it had/has issues and without "Inspector Homes" they would not have been resolved as quick and also without any anymosity from the builders, as the professional snagging company liase with the builders for you, providing of course you pay for the elite package , which was 450.00 was it worth it.......A BIG FAT YES........

Hi, we live in a Redrow new build. When we bought we got 10% off and carpets from what I remember. The house wasn't quite finished, even though it was one of the last built and one of the last three left for sale. We had a few issues when we moved in, no plugs, toilet pan chipped, windows badly scratched, patio door was battered, garage door unpainted, balcony doors (still) dont open and stay open, a LOT of the walls had scrapes and scuffs all over them and the painting in the cloakroom looked like it had been done by my 5 year old. At the time we bought it there wasnt anything we liked on the market for that kind of price and it SEEMED big when we looked round because it was empty.....but we are really outgrowing it now. Garden is stupidly small and you dont even get a fence or turf!

Most of the problems were eventually fixed. We kept asking for them to be done but had a lot the same as a poster above said also about workmen not turning up when they were supposed to. The site manager sent a letter saying that he would sign for us that everything was finished and to our satisfaction, despite us calling every day for them to finish?!

One thing I will say is about the noise from next door. Somedays I do wonder why Redrow bothered putting a wall inbetween us really. We might as well bl**dy live together! I'm so lucky that the house next door is rented and i have 8 polish people living there who party all day and all night. Never, ever again will we buy terraced!

You would be standing alone and in the cold talking to nobody these days as hardly anyone is visiting builder`s showhomes.

.....because you only hear the moaning ones,

This is basically the human condition - we all do it. Just look at some threads on the savings forum about Icelandic banks. Thousands of posts. A few months back there were no posts complaining that the interest rates the same banks offered were too high!

The news is another a good example. Until the credit crunch financial news was never on the front page.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

So your saying new builds are not over priced and are well built LMFAO

90% of new build owners complained of problems

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2007/mar/28/movinghouse.property

If your paying a premium you should be getting quality NOT problems
If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right
